I am eager to begin this debate. I am hoping for a friendly debate.
Rules and Clarifications:
a. I choose to limit the arguments to 1,000 characters, because I am newer and would prefer a clean, back and forth debate. I also understand that you might feel pressured to ramble.
b. I, as pro, am stating that I believe that it is beneficial to the student body, the students, and to schools.
c. No swearing or rudeness.
d. No involving of religion for arguments.
e. You, as con, are stating that it is not beneficial and/or is harmful.

It may be argued that the Student Council acts as a liaison between the students and administration, giving students a voice. This means that the Student Council acts as "the middle man" and it would be most efficient to cut out the middle man.

I have been on my school's council for two consecutive years. As Secretary of the Council, I see how powerless we truly are. Over and over again, in both my old school and current, the council has come to a complete stop because the administration is taking too long to respond.

Student Councils ultimately are given power from the administration - they usually do not have power of their own. They cannot enact or abolish rules or change school policy without the consent of the administration of the school, as such, they are not beneficial for students or schools - they lessen efficiency and are simply machines used to persuade students they have a say. They are good in theory, but are not very practical and won't be without legislative power.
