I think that students shouldn't be required to take the standardized test be to that test is culturally biased and you cant base a persons knowdlegde on one test. A person could be bad at test taking but the people who make the test dont think about that. A lot of high school based their entrance of their school on the one standardized test and i totally think thats not cool.

Note: We only have 500 characters/round.

Because grades and grading are subjective, stanardized tests are the most effective way to compare what students from different regions and backgrounds know and/or should know. For schools or jobs with requirements for admission, it's a way to ensure that an applicant has the sufficient knowledge and education necessary. Con has offered no altgernatives, and remember that test administrators can work to ensure overall fairness.

These tests are also a way to ensure that each student is proficient in basic skills before going to college, so that they don't have to waste time/money learning remedial subjects that they were expected to have already learned. Additionally, this is a good way to determine who to award scholarships or other awards to. Each school curriculum is different; however, we should have a set of basic standard education that is beneficial to each individual and society.

Education is mandatory for a reason. We expect our citizens to have a certain level of education in order to be able to function properly in society. Standardized tests are a way to ensure that schools (who receive public funding) are doing what they get paid to do: educate. Standardized exit exams, for instance, measure basic knowledge such as literacy and comprehension, both of which are skills useful and necessary for the 'real world.' Anyway thanks, Con, for flaking out.

The voting period for this debate is "indefinite." I would rather have a limited voting period so that a winner can be determined. Thus, I'll pass on the challenge.
