Abortion is never something that should be decided for a young woman by someone else. It is an extremely personal thing and with Trump attempting to block it for some people, it is no longer so personal.

Just because you are under the age of eighteen does not change the fact that you still deserve respect and dignity. If she is raped or a victim of incest or for practically any reason at all, she should still have the right to a legal and safe abortion.

I am taking the CON position. I will argue that a person who t has not reached the age of majority cannot "decide for herself ( nor for himself as the case may warrant) in regard to any form of medical procedure.

Maturity is something that has always been, for me, a matter of opinion. How can you tell if someone is "mature" enough to be able to make the decision?

Abortion is something that every woman should have access to even if the fact that they got pregnant was entirely their own doing (due to unprotected sex...,etc) or if it wasn't (due to rape or incest). The age of the woman is not relevant when it coems to her decision.

Your argument is that;

#1 "Abortion is never something that should be decided for a young woman by someone else."

#2 " It is an extremely personal thing and with Trump attempting to block it for some people, it is no longer so personal."

#3 " Just because you are under the age of eighteen does not change the fact that you still deserve respect and dignity."

#4 " If she is raped or a victim of incest or for practically any reason at all, she should still have the right to a legal and safe abortion."

#5 "Maturity is something that has always been, for me, a matter of opinion. How can you tell if someone is "mature" enough to be able to make the decision?"

#6 "Abortion is something that every woman should have access to even if the fact that they got pregnant was entirely their own doing (due to unprotected sex...,etc) or if it wasn't (due to rape or incest).

And #7 "The age of the woman is not relevant when it coems ( sic ) to her decision."

Let us take each one;

#1 "Abortion is never something that should be decided for a young woman by someone else." There are many things in the American legal system that are "decided by someone else" For example age of marriage, age of driving, age of voting, and age to hold certain offices. Should "abortion" be singled out for special treatment with no age limitations ? No. There are legal remedies to help minors if needed.

#2 " It is an extremely personal thing and with Trump attempting to block it for some people, it is no longer so personal." PRO's use of "personal" here seems to mean " it is my decision and mine alone". This disregards the other beings involved. Is it not "personal" for the parents of the "mother" ( or "fetus carrier" if that is your view).? Do they get to weigh in on the decision?

#3 " Just because you are under the age of eighteen does not change the fact that you still deserve respect and dignity."
This statement is very "loaded" with other meanings. Children ( "minors") have not yet attained legal majority. Until they do their decisions are subject to the decisions of others having attained majority. The minors deserve "respect with a small r, not the big "Respect" of a person reaching legal majority status.

and #4 " If she is raped or a victim of incest or for practically any reason at all, she should still have the right to a legal and safe abortion." If she were raped, most "parents" would consent to an abortion. If not even a minor may petition a court for
intersession. Ditto in cases of incest. The pregnant minor would still have access to abortion, but not unlimited or unrestricted access. Where we really disagree is the "for practically any reason at all" statement.

In most states. parental ( or guardian ) approval is needed for even so minor an act as a flu shot. Abortion is much closer to a "medium risk" procedure, and therefore should need at least as great a guardian oversight.

#5 "Maturity is something that has always been, for me, a matter of opinion. How can you tell if someone is "mature" enough to be able to make the decision?" One need not be able to "tell". It is a matter of state law when maturity is attained in a legal sense.

#6 "Abortion is something that every woman should have access to even if the fact that they got pregnant was entirely their own doing (due to unprotected sex...,etc) or if it wasn't (due to rape or incest). " Yes every "woman" should have access. However a "woman" is a female who has reached legal majority, and that supports my position.

And #7 "The age of the woman is not relevant when it coems ( sic ) to her decision." Here we must make a distinction between "decision" and "action". Even a child can decide to have an abortion, but the action would require approval from a recognized legally major entity such as a guardian or a court.
