Pro

This is for a school project, I just want to see some opinions.
16kadams

Con

Pro has not offered any evidence to cause us to vote for him. I will provide a few arguments arguing it should be illegal.

1) Cost. It costs 1 million dollars more to execute someone than put someone in jail (http://www.deathpenaltyinfo.org...)
2) Innocents. There are at least 10 people who have been executed but are possibly innocent (http://www.deathpenaltyinfo.org...)
3) Crime. Death penalty often causes murderers to be more brutal (brutalization effect), and increase crime. This is proven because states without the death penalty have higher rates of homicide (http://www.deathpenaltyinfo.org...)

I have offered 3 arguments, my opponent has offered 0. I win.

Lol to all you voters out there. They didn't post any arguments because they wanted to see what someone else thought and what their reasoning was.... :P

pro is also seeking catharsis for a community. Death penalty can also disproportionately fall on one race etc..

Illegal

The moral arguments, the lack of deterrence, uneven justice, any number of good reasons to NOT kill. About the only "pro" is vengeance. Not a very good reason at all.

Reasons for voting decision: Pro made no arguments, cited no sources, had no debate. I'd have trolled this so that the kid learned to do her own homework.

Reasons for voting decision: Conduct - Tie. Both had proper conduct throughout. S&G - Tie. Both had adequate spelling and grammar throughout. Arguments - Con. Pro failed to present any case whatsoever, whereas Con did. Due to this, it's clear Con wins arguments since Pro made none. Sources - Con. Pro did not utilize any sources in this debate whereas Con did. This is a clear win for Con.
