Thank you to whoever accepts this challenge.
I say we should NOT get involved with Libya for the following reasons:
1) The US is already fighting several wars in Afghanistan, Iran and is active in Iraq. Do we really need to get involved with another country?
2) Libya poses no great threat on the US
3) Why start enemies with another country?
4) This conflict would neither be clean nor easy
5) We don't know who would replace Gadhaffi
6) There is no clear objective

Thanks and good luck to the pro

Thank you for posting this topic. I am picking this up because I believe that there is some good reason that we are in Libya although the government may not represent that to the citizens. I believe we are over there because we are doing our part in the UN. We are just over there helping other's that are in the UN because this situation could become worse and you never know what is going to happen with wars. Also in my own opinion I think that the United States is over there to show everyone else that we are America and we are strong, and we have to get into everyone's situations because were America thats just how we are.

Hello, pro. Good luck to you. While there are some good things that could come out of it, please also refer to my points listed in round 1. Please start trying to break them down

Well the problem is that I have mixed feelings about this topic because your points issue so many different opinions but i will try my best.
These are responding to your points.
1. No, but if we don't then it will look bad on our part of the UN
2. This is true at the moment but no one knows the future.
3. I think that we may be making enemies with other countries but we are gaining alliance power with different countries.
4. True
5. The country could be run by the UN until this situation is resolved
6. The objective is to stop Gadhaffi from senseless killing of his own people.

Interesting...But a few flaws.
1) While it may make the US look bad on our part, the US simply cannot afford another war. Therefore, the UN should be a bit easier on the US when it comes to the war in Libya
2) It may be true at the moment, but won't be if the US gets involved.
3) True.
4) No need to discuss further.
5) Possibly a scenario.
6) I should expand on what I meant.
If we want to mount a humanitarian effort, we shouldn't involve the military, and if we want to involve the military, we need to mount a full invasion. The worst idea would be "mission creep," like our intervention in Somalia, which gradually shifted from humanitarian to military without a clear plan. And half-measures, like a no-fly zone, are just "a slick way to slide down the slope to deeper intervention."

Reasons for voting decision: Claims made by both sides were not adequately supported by supporting arguments. Why is the claim valid? Pro should have argued humanitarian reason, which is the stated reason. Pro's forfeits lose conduct.
