Yes, the Cuban Embargo should be kept in place. First of all, if the embargo is lifted there would be no benefit to the people. All tourist proceeds, trade, etc. would go to the abusive government because it owns most of the tourist attractions and corporations in Cuba. Secondly, the Cuban Embargo was put into place for a reason, to turn Cuba into a democracy. This is nearly a reality and if the US budges even a little on the Cuban embargo it would just help the abusive government to keep abusing their people and their power.
With Cuba being the closest communist country to the US. This means that this country is the highest danger to the US because they are the most likely to be allies with other communist countries such as Russia. Back in time, there was an incident that happened where Cuba was holding missiles from another Communist country. Another incident was recorded where Cuba and North Korea were sending missiles back and forth via ships. This is a huge endangerment to US as the are only 80 miles off the coast.

I accept this challenge, and will not present any refutations in this round so this is an even debate.

Arguments:

1. The United States should end the Cuban Embargo because it has poor effects on the people in Cuba. The original goal of this embargo was to help the civilians in Cuba by helping them achieve freedom from Castro. However, the embargo has only harmed the innocent civilians in Cuba. (According to http://www.cato.org...), the economic embargo has failed completely. The effect that it has had on the Cubans is not helping them to achieve their freedom, but rather depriving the Cuban civilians of necessary items for survival such as food and water. (According to American Association for World Health), doctors in Cuba have less than 50% of the drugs as they did before the embargo. Also, food shortages lead to a 33% drop in the caloric intake of Cubic citizens over the span of four years (1989-1993). The report said that their opinion is that "the US embargo has caused a significant rise suffering-and even deaths in Cuba." This is significant because it is morally incorrect to deprive these innocent Cuban citizens of having items that are necessary for survival. The population of Cuba is roughly 11.27 million, and all of these people who are not in the government will be dead because of this embargo.

2. The Cuban Embargo should be lifted because it is a failure. A failure is defined as a failing to perform a duty or expected action (http://www.merriam-webster.com...). Clearly, the Cuban Embargo has not completed its duty or expected action, which was to turn Cuba into a democracy, stated in my previous argument and my opponent. However, look at Cuba today. It's as far away from a democracy as when this embargo was put into place, ~40 years ago. This also shows that the embargo is inneffective, therefore further making it a failure. The only thing it is good at is ruining the lives of millions of Cubans and killing off their population.

I look forward to a brilliant debate with plenty of amazing rebuttals and arguments. Good luck!
