Resolved: The United States Federal Government should lift all restrictions of travel to Cuba. The travel ban to Cuba violates the Constitution and all violations of the Constitutions should be rejected no matter the circumstance. The freedom to travel is the building block for all other rights because if the government has the ability to block freedom of travel, they can equally take away other important rights.

First, I would like to thank pro for creating this debate. This is a very frequently asked question, and I will be happy to debate over it.

overview:
Cuba sided with Russia during the cold war, so the US brought on the embargo. In addition to that, Fidel Castro (the dictator of Cuba) is a dictator who doesn't take care about citizens. Proclamation 3447 states that the embargo was placed on Cuba because of "the threat posed by its alignment with the communist powers.", and so the US won't lift it until Cuba moves towards democracy

and now, allow me to give you three reasons that we should not, in fact lift it

1. Cuba has not met the requirements to lift it. According to the US law, Cuba must legalize all political activity, release all political prisoners, convert to democracy, grant freedom to the press, respect the international human rights, and allow unions. Cuba has currently done none of this, and so the embargo should not, and can not, be lifted.

2 Ending the travel ban before the conditions are met would just make the states seem weak. Lifting the travel ban so quickly could make Cuba even bolder, and they might join forces with Venezuela, Nicaragua, Bolivia, China, and Iran, in hopes of exploiting that weakness further (by promoting anti US sentiments with anti-US acts). It might also encourage them to try to take the states's land.

3. They can't. It's as simple as that. Every time the US has tried to soften up the pact, Cuba has just responded by being even more aggressive. For instance, in 2009 when Obama let Americans go to Cuba to visit their relatives, an american aid worker was sent to prison for 15 years. And that wasn't the first time it happened either.

as you can see, I have listed many reasons why the embargo cannot be lifted, and I look forward to your rebutal.

Very poor interpretation. I suggest actually reading the relevant passages, before someone accepts and quotes them.
