The first round is for declaring your argument and introductions.

I am Jacob, I will be arguing against the prioritization of debt reduction.

Definition: The United States debt we will be talking about is the public government debt of 16 trillion. Not the private debt.

The U.S. public debt is actually 18.4 trillion at the moment. http://www.usdebtclock.org... I hope it hasn't gone up 2 trillion since this debate was started 2 days ago.

All joking aside, empires come and go, and the United States is no different. How's that debt to GDP look?

Not so good. For now we can limp along because foreigners continue to hold dollars and the U.S. enjoys petrodollar status. But things are changing. The welfare state continues to grow:

How about dollar devaluation?

Government will continue to grow along with the welfare state, eventually putting the breaks on productivity. When investors slow purchases of U.S. federal debt and interest rates rise, things are going to get ugly.

prioritize: determine the order for dealing with (a series of items or tasks) according to their relative importance.

Well, we should at least do that, no?

I was glad to have an opportunity to learn to post inline images in a debate. I hope voters enjoyed my econ-eye-candy.

Other than that, vote Pro!
