The death penalty is not teaching people anything but killing is right. Which is wrong. No matter what someone does they have the right to live. I.E., So If someone were to kill another being they should face very severe punishment like a life time in jail instead of a death sentence. Most of the time detectives don't do a full on investigation on the crime. So they put innocent people on death row and once they are killed they get proven innocent. That can lead to suisidle actions or thought for the family members or friends. It costs more to put someone on death row than to put them in prison. We have to pay for the lethal injection which is most common. I cost around $86 per person and about 98 people are killed on death row a year. All of the money we have to pay to kill people could be going to the families of murder victims. A lot of the time people use racism to deiced who is guilty and who is not. This also goes into where lawyers sometimes don't plead a good case for the murder because they think they were in the wrong.
