I think the drinking age should be changed to 18, because at 18 you are legally considered a adult. You can vote for your country because you are expected to be responsible and aware. If you can be a legal adult you should be treated like one. Both a 21 year old and a 18 year old should have the privilege of doing all the same things. If both adults, why should there be restrictions and differences between the two.
That's true, but whether in high school or not you're still an adult. If the responsibility was given, the consequences of sharing with minors would be applied too. There are plenty of 21 year old adults out there, that give alcohol to minors. Also many kids out there have fake ID's and they share with minors and they are minors themselves. So, sharing with minors is already a problem.
Just because irresponsible 21 year olds give alcohol to minors does not mean 18 year olds should be given the chance to do the same. Why should we exasperate the problem? When states like ,Massachusetts, tried lowering the drinking age , they found that the access of alcohol to minors increased significantly . It it also increased student fatalities due to automobile accidents which were a direct cause of driving intoxicated.
It is sad when people are killed from drunk drivers or even drunk driving themselves. When you think about it though, the majority of countries around the world have their legal drinking age set to 18. The second most popular drinking age around the world is as young as 16. There are only a few countries outside the United States, that have their drinking age set to 21. When these other countries are compared to the United States, their accident rate due to drunk driving is significantly lower then ours.
Yes again, but that is in Europe. European culture is different from the American culture. But since you have brought up the topic in Europe; Student fatalities due to alcohol is not automobile accidents, but binge drinking. England and Italy both have drinking ages under the age of 21. The privilege of drinking that has been mistaken as a right and has brought fatal consequences to the youth in Europe. Not only is the number one death for teens in Europe is binge drinking, but the rape for minors is extremely high. Many say that those who have been raped were under the influence of alcohol. In America, rape is also has a strong link to the influence of alcohol from both men and women.
