Drinking under the age of 21 can be very dangerous: it leads to damaging parts of your brain, higher alcohol consumptions, and more driving accidents. Sandra Aamodt from NPR says, "changes that happen between 18 and 25 are a continuation of the process that starts around puberty, and 18-year-olds are about halfway through that process. Their prefrontal cortex is not yet fully developed. That's the part of the brain that helps you to inhibit impulses and to plan and organize your behavior to reach a goal". Once these young adults get their hands on alcohol, it leads to limiting their brain development. The "hippocampus is responsible for memory function, and heavy alcohol consumption can lead to a 10% reduction which causes blackouts and the inability to form long-term memories" It also links to depression and PTSD. Giving access to alcohol at younger age results in binge drinking which can lead to driving incidents that can be prevented. The number of traffic-related accidents has gone down since the Federal Uniform Drinking Age of 1984 was enforced. In my opinion, I believe nothing would benefit the American people by having the drinking age be lowered. It would only cause more concern to the American people than it already does.

The drinking age should be lowered. In many European countries people are able to drink alcohol (so long as it isn't hard liquor), this works there and it takes away most people's temptations to drink to look cool. Changing the age to 19 will allow that high schools stay cleaner due to no seniors being the drinking age. There should be no reason you can be drafted and shipped off, but not allowed to purchase alcohol.
