I think it would be beneficial for us as a society to start helping out our communities more, but I wont to know your opinions on the matter.

THANKS FOR THE FUN DEBATE TOPIC

I don't think it shoud be mandatory. Students might have extra-curricular activities (or even jobs to support their families) that conflict with community service. Furthermore the kinds of kids that don't do community service might not be the kind of kids you want doing community service. If community service is not mandatory it can be rewarded and then children who apply themselves will be postivley reinforced.

Please explain to me this concept of mandatory volunteering.

Volunteer: a person who freely offers to take part in an enterprise or undertake a task.
Mandatory: required by law or rules; compulsory.

Some schools already do offer community service opportunities for extra curricular and for college recognition, and others just for the sake of helping out people in need. It is not mandatory but strongly advised.

Reasons for voting decision: Forfeit. Nice conduct on Con. With limited characters you still thanked your opponent.
