I for one honestly dont see why you think weed should not be legal it really help's, for example if someone has eating problems as in not eating it will make them eat the handle of the flipping fridge. and help's with pain .ect

John Mills Stuart, a renowned British philosopher from the 19th century wrote in his essay "On Liberty" that "the only purpose for which power can be rightfully exercised over any member of the civilized community, against his will, is to prevent harm to others".
It is on these grounds that I believe that weed should be banned. Firstly, there is no doubt that cannabis is harmful to our health. It causes addiction, affects brain development and factors to respiratory illnesses.

Secondly, the legalization of weed will inevitably lead to the exploitation of gullible young people. This would cause irreparable damage to their lives, and thus should be banned.

Certain people argue that legalizing cannabis would reduce crime rate. This is completely absurd. After all, we would not legalize theft or murder just to reduce crime rate; this would reduce society to chaos. The question is not whether or not society has a crime rate, but whether or not the society is, in the words of Pierre Elliott Trudeau, a "just society", grounded in morals. Legalizing drugs that would potentially damage the lives of young people and therefore is not moral.
Pro"s arguments that "weed should be legal if it really helps", is like saying that "euthanasia should be legal if it really helps alleviate suffering" or "abortion should be legal if it really unburdens the mother", which begs the question, as it only makes sense if there is nothing wrong with smoking weed.
