This is my first real debate.

I contend that sleeping in class only hurts yourself.

Definition of sleep (Merriam-Webster.com): the natural periodic suspension of consciousness during which the powers of the body are restored.

Unlike talking or texting, sleeping is only engages yourself.

Definition of engage (dictionary.com): to occupy the attention or efforts of (a person or persons)

Con

I contend that sleeping in class does not "only hurt yourself"
This is true because of two reasons
First it is distracting the students because of snoring and students staring at an oddity.
Secondly it hurts the teacher, the teacher can feel insulted for the sleeping students obvious disregard for the lesson.

There will be more arguments posted in the next round if these are rebutted

I will rebute these arguments, despite your child-like threat of more arguments in next round.

First it is distracting the students because of snoring and students staring at an oddity.

This is assuming you are snoring, which is much less likely due to the fact that most people who sleep in class sleep with there heads down. Snoring is caused by the obsruction of air movement inside the body (http://en.wikipedia.org...). Staring at an oddity will only hurt yourself because you are the only one being called an oddity, thus slandering your name.

Your second argument, teachers are insulted.

I had a survey yesterday, and 9/10 teachers asked are not insulted by it, and 6/10 of them said they did not care.

Actually, since I don't snore and I greatly appreciate the gift of learning, when I've completed all of my work a quick power nap can recharge my batteries and get me prepared to continue working in the proceeding classes, and my teachers aren't bothered by it.

Pro loses conduct; "child-like threats" insults opponent. Pro granted Con's argument that sleep harms some others by distraction, even if not all are distracted. Even if only one teacher is insulted, that is harm to others. Imagine trying to argue that murder does no harm to others by saying it only harms a very small percentage -- nonetheless, harm is done.

1st it is not a threat to say you have more arguments in a debate.
2nd staring at an oddity distracts that student who is staring from the lesson.
3rd your survay is unsourced and unscientific.

No, b-ball girl. Pro is merely just agreeing with the said statement, Con is trying to prove it wrong.

Im confused. So is pro saying that it is bad to sleep in class? and is con saying that sleeping in class doesn't matter? Cause it sounds like it is backwards
