I personally do not smoke, but have lost my grandmother and soon will lose my own mother and grandfather to it was well.

1 in 5 adults and teenagers smoke, and use tobacco products in general, and with that 16 million people have diseases from smoking and using tobacco products in the absolute general. (http://betobaccofree.hhs.gov...)

"Lung diseases caused by smoking include COPD, which includes emphysema and chronic bronchitis. Cigarette smoking causes most cases of lung cancer. If you have asthma, tobacco smoke can trigger an attack or make an attack worse. Smokers are 12 to 13 times more likely to die from COPD than nonsmokers.Oct 1, 2015"

My thesis is that there are many products of which kills many, and they arent illegalized, which looks like the first and supported action in place. In a way, tobacco is an addictive drug, and other addictive drugs are illegalized, this really shouldn't even be a debate.

It seems that I have squandered this round, so I will let my opponent build up their arguments if they so choose.

The most leading causes of death are Cancer, at a number of 611,105 and Chronic lower respiratory diseases: 149,205, which can both be caused by smoking/using tobacco products.(http://www.cdc.gov...)
While the use of cannabis less by a huge number, and can even be used for medical purposes, yet still illegal in most of the states in the U.S. when tobacco products kill over 6 million people every year, at least half of their users die, smoking clearly, is a dangerous 'drug', and should be banned usage.
