Lung cancer kills over 1 million people a year and people still smoke. If the cigerette company would stop making cigerettes then maybe the world would be a better place. No nasty smoke to get in little kids lungs and have them die from second hand smoke. No one wants there kid to die and if kids die they cant grow up and live there life.Think of all the lifes you could save if the world would stop smoking.
Johnicle

Con

It isn't the smoking that kills, rather, the people that kill. If people stopped making cigarettes, people wouldn't die from them… ok… but that is the same for cars, alarm clocks, houses, and even pens and pencils. Do you want to stop making them too? In the end it is the person that decides what they do and how they do it, not the inanimate object. And although there is a temptation, it is ultimately the person that kills the person.

Thanks for the challenge and good luck!

What does alarm clocks have to do with this? I am around a smoker myself and i tell my lungs are getting bad.If they would stop making cigerettes-tabacco ect. that would also save the world more money and then we wouldn't be in a depression.

Con

If we didn't make alarm clocks, then there would be one less thing to be thrown at your head in a fight. SAME AS if we didn't make cigarettes, there would be one less health hazard to you. However, this is irrelevant since the topic is that smoking kills. And you will see that it is the PEOPLE that smoke who ACTUALLY kill. I assume you have been around cigarettes all of your life, but it isn't until you've been around ppl. that smoke that you were harmed. Plus smoking is good for the economy

There is little doubt that smoking tobacco is extremely harmful to the smoker's health. In the US, for example, research by the American Cancer Society suggests that tobacco causes up to 400,000 deaths each year - more than AIDS, alcohol, drug abuse, car crashes, murders, suicides, and fires combined. World-wide some 3 million people die from smoking each year - one every ten seconds - which estimates suggest will rise to 10 million by 2020. Smokers are up to 22 times more likely to develop lung cancer than non-smokers, and smoking can lead to a host of other health problems, including emphysema and heart disease. One of the main responsibilities of any government is to ensure the safety of its population; that is why taking hard drugs and breaking the speed limit are also illegal. It would therefore be reasonable to ban smoking - an activity which kills millions of people each year.

I know, I just wouldn't be a debater if I didn't argue everything. However, she never so much as mentioned a second hand smoke argument. Thus, if she did she might deserve even my vote.

But I still agree with pro, because she said stopping the production of cigerattes would make the world better, and although it may be the smokers that kill themselves, they also affect other people. Think about how many people die of second-hand smoke each year. People that never pick up a cigeratte once and end up dying over cigeratte smoke anyway. Other than that, I will give you the points you deserve

really? Capitalization is for empahsis, and has nothing to do with grammar. However, not putting spaces after sentences does. No sources were brought up at all, so how can you justify giving it to anyone? As far as conduct goes, I never contended that smoking wasn't bad, I agree that it is, I just argue that it is the person that kills themself by doing a harmful action. I don't care if you outlaw smoking, just don't say smoking killed you because smoking didn't put the cigarrete in your mouth... YOU did.

before-pro
after-pro, knick knack patty wack failed to convince me with his alarm clock tactic
conduct- pro, smoking is a horrible action, and by taking this lightly, con has bad conduct
grammar- pro, con capitalized way too many words
arguments- pro, find one incident where someone was killed by an alarm clock, actually i still wont agree with con anyway
sources-pro, might as well give pro a straight ticket, only to enforce how incoherent patty wack was

Smoking is good for the economy. Since there is more money flow. 500 characters is NOT enough and the 15 minutes is pushy. But it was an interesting debate. Thanks. I voted for me on everything but reliable sources. Since there were none, I gave a tie in that category.
