What you are saying is that smoking should be created illegal because it can cause health issues in the human using the cigarette. What I don't agree with is that it should be made illegal. While the intentions of what you are doing may be good, it will cause much more harm than good.
For one, when smoking is made illegal, who is to say that donuts and soda and even cookies should be illegal? There is scientific evidence that soda (or pop, which ever you are familiar with) is detrimental to your body in the amount of carbonation and sugar put into the drink. When you ban one thing for a reason, it is guaranteed that people are going to want to ban other things for that same reason. An example of this was in the "ban bossy" campaign. This campaign was designed to ban the word "bossy" because of it being negative and overarching towards women. Again, while the intents of the campaign may have been positive, people started wanting to ban other words, such as "jerk" or "stupid" or even "loser."
Another reason that smoking should not be made illegal is that it will just increase crime. Take a look at the 1920-30's prohibition era. Alcohol or an intoxication of an alcohol beverage was illegal in that time period. The intent was good in that to much alcohol intake usually ended up in people making bad decisions. But the result was even worse than planned. Instead of the alcohol issue going down, it went dramatically up. Now that alcohol was illegal, people started to take it illegally. Gangsters and criminals would make huge amounts of money selling alcohol, and overall crime went up because police started catching people everywhere taking alcohol illegally because they couldn't take it legally. It also but many jobs out of work, bars and other alcohol selling markets had to close down, and while law enforcers were supposed to enforce the ban on alcohol, they too would sometimes illegally have a drink. This is guaranteed to happen if smoking is made illegal. Smoking is addictive and people will sometimes do anything to get it. Lets be honest here, just like prohibition- if people can't get it legally they will just find a way to get it illegally which could potentially result in them being caught and fined.
So in conclusion, I feel you have good intentions. You want to make smoking illegal because of the negative health issues it poses to a human body. However, if smoking is made illegal there are numerous other things that could potentially be made illegal because of negative health issues which creates a whole new era of debate. Also, making smoking illegal will not necessarily stop the issue, it will just open up illegal smoking- which also creates another huge issue.

"Smoking is responsible for several diseases, such as cancer, long-term (chronic) respiratory diseases, and heart disease, as well as premature death. Over 440,000 people in the USA and 100,000 in the UK die because of smoking each year." (1)

These numbers are one of the biggest reasons that I think smoking should be illegal. That is way too many lives lost due to one single thing that can be stopped all together. Smoking has been proven to cause cancer in people and those affected almost always pass away from that. If you know that this is going to happen to you then why do it in the first place?

Smoking is the largest cause of preventable deaths in the world. "Preventable death" is the key phrase here. If people would simple stop smoking those 440,000 people would still be alive or would not have gotten sick in the first place. Smokers die 10 years on average before non-smokers. I would want to live for those extra years, but why wouldn"t everybody else? If you had the chance to extend your life by 10 or more years I would think you would want to do whatever it took to do that.

We also have to think about the non-smokers who are affected. Second hand smoke is just as dangerous as smoking. "Every year in the U.S., secondhand smoke causes about 34,000 deaths from heart disease and 7,300 deaths from lung cancer, the CDC says." (2) This is an alarming amount of fatalities due to somebody else smoking around people. That is just inconsiderate if you are smoking around people knowing what it will do to them in the long run.

I would have to disagree with my opponent on the crime issue. Smuggling cigarettes is already a big problem. They are already causing crimes to occur without them being illegal everywhere. There would be tighter patrols out if we were to make them illegal which would most likely help us in the long run. They would (if they had probable cause) be able to search the vehicle and who know what they could stop from happening if this were to come about.

I agree that people might take this and want to ban other things, but they would have to have a very strong case to do so.

The right to do anything should and does carry responsibility with it. Do not force others to clean up the mess one makes of their lives over lifestyle choices. That would get rid of all the bureaucracies in government. And the freedom to choose would be here again. And we would not be enabling bad behavior.

I will accept, but do we only argue about the health side? Or can we put in some economics, too? *
