Frankly, no. Due to the rapid depletion of our natural resources, I think mankind is dangerously close to killing itself off.

Look around. Already, people are fighting over water in the Eastern United States. In Russia, People are killing each other for pairs of pants. Riots, war, lack of resources like water and oil, are all problems we must face. If society is going to overcome the next 100 years, we're going to need to overcome these problems first.

I would like to first thank you for providing us a topic to debate about and opening it to the public so that we all have a chance. I look forward to debating you and I hope all that will observe will give both sides a fair shake and put their political views aside and vote based solely open substantive information.

Although my opponent is entitled to her opinion I feel that her jump to a dooms day scenario is invalid. My opponent has brought up a few main points that I will address in the first round and keep this concise so we can get this debate underway. The following points will be those in which i will address and hopefully persuade you not to think so pessimistic and get us back to a productive outlook on this world.

A. Uncontrolled Violence in Russia
B. Shortage of Water
C. Oil Shortage
D. 100 year time frame.

My opponent brought up a strange point about people killing in Russia and how it is a dire sign of the world's end. Russia has been known for it's violence especially to prisoners. This violence is stuff that has been going on for many a year and I expect to continue seeing it for the rest of my life time. Hopefully you can address how senseless killing equates to world wide destruction in the next round.

Probably to most valid point my opponent has made is the fact that the supply of fresh water is depleting as the world population continues to increase. This is a problem but I feel that with all the creations the humans of the world have come up with I am sure their will be a push to make it cheaper to extract salt from water in order to convert ocean water which makes up 70% percent of the world into drinkable water. So i wouldn't give up to fast on human kind.

You have made a statement that we are running out of oil which is something that is so untrue. The reason why it appears that we are running out of oil is because environmentalist prevent us from drilling offshore and in the 50 states. There are oil fields in Utah that have not yet been touched, we have many new sightings across the globe which proves oil is still plentiful. There is so much oil in fact that we can pull away from energy independence from other Countries and solve a lot of our problems in regards to foreign affairs. Take a look of the following links for oil finds. These will prove we have far more than a hundred years of oil.

- 300 years oil in Colorado. http://hawaii.gov...

- Brazil could be at the same level production wise with Venezuela.
http://www.cnn.com...

- Cuban could break embargo after oil find.
http://www.washingtonpost.com...

You have put up a arbitrary hundred year period till the destruction of mankind. I would like for you to answer what mathematics lead you to this number? I will await your response take care.

Sincerely,
Fred

Okay, there are four rounds in this thing, and I'm working on a response, but utter procrastination and the fact that your case is excellent is sort of stalling me. Thank you for accepting my challenge, I will post my argument next round. Feel free to use this round to elaborate your point, or just say "blah" and ignore it. I don't really mind- sorry I can't post my argument yet. Consider that a compliment to you.

??? I thought he was going to say something... Oh well, I'll get started then.

"You have made a statement that we are running out of oil which is something that is so untrue. Take a look of the following links for oil finds. These will prove we have far more than a hundred years of oil."

1.) Your graph doesn't include the population increase factor.

2.) They also claimed that the Alaskan oil reserves would last hundreds of years, yet they barely lasted 20.

"When the Trans-Alaskan Pipeline first came on-line, Prudhoe Bay was expected to produce 9.6 billion barrels of crude oil. It is now expected to produce over 12 billion barrels of oil.[9] Moreover, known fields and pools in the vicinity are expected to produce another 4 billion barrels. The true size of deposits on Alaska's North Slope, however, can be best understood by reference to the fact that it has up to 100 billion barrels of oil-in- place, of which only 16 billion barrels qualify as "proven reserves" (resources that can be profitably extracted). Usually, 30 percent to 40 percent of the oil-in-place can be produced, but there is a multitude of constraints on North Slope production." -CATO Institute, May 18th, 1995

Mathmatically, they would still be drilling oil out of Alaska, wouldn't they

"Using detailed geoscience analysis of individual basins, the study indicates only a quarter of the oil volumes previously estimated in key Arctic basins in North America and Greenland. Moreover, it concludes that the Arctic is primarily a gas province, with natural gas accounting for 85% of the discovered resources and 74% of the exploration potential in that northernmost region of the globe. The Arctic is projected at its peak in 20 years to produce 8 million boe/d, split 40:60 of oil and gas, with the proportion of production from US basins lower than previously anticipated."

I'm gonna cut this short, i don't wanna forfeit by accident, i'll post the rest in comments...
