The Southern states should be allowed to secede in my opinion. The southern states should be allowed to secede because the already act like their own nation, however, the are labeled as States of the USA. I believe they have already seceded in their own belief but, the government is not willing to let them secede. I believe that if the southern states do secede though, they should be subjected to international rules and laws that would prevent them from doing anything that other countries cannot do.

Pro never defined what a Southern State was. Such a word could include states like Nevada and California. We will go with the Government's definition, including the following states:

Delaware, District of Columbia, Florida, Georgia, Maryland, North Carolina, South Carolina, Virginia, West Virginia, Alabama, Kentucky, Mississippi , Tennessee, Arkansas, Louisiana, Oklahoma and Texas

- Economic Issues:

Removing the Southern States, regardless of how the economy is doing, would crash the US. The United States holds a much more complex and intertwining economic system far different than in the Civil War. Removing the South from such a global source of economy power would crash the US, and the Global, economic system.

The Southern States account for:
$4.994 Trillion GDP.(2)
34% of the US GDP.
114,555,744 people.(3)
37% of the US population.

To remove them would be crushing to US stability and the stability of the world. The South also hold's the 2nd and 4th more powerful US States. The South remaining apart of the US is critical to keep the world from collapsing under the loss of US economic stability.

- China and US Hegemony:

With an economy (PPP) of $13,623.255 billion, or $13.6 trillion, China is just behind the United States.(4)

With only $2.1 trillion (rounded) ahead of China, the US must maintain large economic growth. Losing the $5 trillion (rounded) from the Southern States simply is not Optional. To lose those states would put the US almost $3 trillion behind China. The loss in Economic Growth provided by the South would end any chances of ever re-overtaking China.

The start of a Chinese era of world hegemony would be crippling to the survival of Western and European Capitalist Democracy and all ideas spread by both nations, such as Freedom and Equality... Principles not shared by the Chinese.

The Post-American age would truly begin.

Loss of over 40% of our Military power(5), and the loss of an estimated $900 billion in tax revenue, would Cripple US Hegemony, starting multiple Arms races around the world, both against China and against Neighbors. Places like Europe, the nations don't often have massive Armies. This is because the US often patrols the area. This provides benefits to those nations, allowing them to focus taxes elsewhere, and absolutely stops ALL Arms Races that might occur, much like the Arms Race that started World War I and numerous other wars around the world.

Ending this hegemony would leave nations scrambling to rebuild Armies and cause a massive European and Chinese Arms Race. Europe can not afford such an event, because taxes in Europe are already around 40% - 50% in most nations.

- Washington DC:

Let's re-display the list of Southern States and Territories.

Delaware, District of Columbia, Florida, Georgia, Maryland, North Carolina, South Carolina, Virginia, West Virginia, Alabama, Kentucky, Mississippi , Tennessee, Arkansas, Louisiana, Oklahoma and Texas

Washington DC, the United States capital, is among the list. To succeed would remove the US's Seat of Government. This would be crippling to the US, even if you moved the Government elsewhere.

If Washington DC does not leave the Union with the rest of the States, it would be surrounded and isolated by them.

- Federal Property:

The South holds too many US Military Bases and US Federal land... This includes training bases and Nuclear Armories that belong to the US Federal Government. The South would not simply own all those locations, including the vast number of Nuclear Weapons located there, because they left the Union. The US Federal Government would still own the land. This would create too many issues.

Although it would create even more issues if they did keep the land and weapons.

- Political Parties:

The South is the major holding ground for the Republican Party. While a few states to the North lean more Republican, the South includes the strongest Republican holdings. Losing the South would leave the US with only the Democratic Party.

The Republican Party in the US would become more like the Constitution Party. It would be minor and have little influence in Government. The Democratic Party would be the only Major Political Party with seats and power and Government.

The United States would become almost entirely a Single-Party nation.

======================================================================================================

For these reasons, the Southern States may not secede from the Union. Such an act would cause to much harm to the stability of the World and both the Southern States and the United States.
