Outer space is a thing.
juli.marie00

Con

How do we know that? We have never been to space ourselves. There is way too much technology that if the government wanted to, they could completely convince us of this just to distract us from other problems.
Debate Round No. 1
gurghet

Pro

GPS systems work in open fields, away from any technology. Since GPS works thanks to signals coming from a distance of 20'000km and those signals come from above, we can conclude that outer space exists.
juli.marie00

Con

*clears throat* AHEM. So, we don't know how large the earth's atmosphere is.
Debate Round No. 2
gurghet

Pro

Certainly not 20'000Km, people who go above 3Km experience sickness from the lack of oxigen because of the thin atmosphere.
Take a barometer and note that every 100m you go up (say on a hill or a skyscaper) the barometer goes down about 1000Pascal. At sea level the pressure is about 10'000Pascal, this means there is no more atmosphere after about 10km.
juli.marie00

Con

Well, we have no standard of what the atmosphere is and where it stops. In case you haven't noticed, it's not like...A wall there?

3 points to Pro (Arguments). Reasons for voting decision: Pro made a good point by bringing up satellites.

[*Reason for removal*] The voter is required to specifically assess arguments made by both debaters. Merely stating that one point made by one side was good is not sufficient " it must be explained why it was good, and why it was better than Con"s arguments.

"The star image looks nothing like what I've seen." Of course it doesn't. Objects far away look completely different close up. "

No, even with a telescopic lens they look nothing like the CGI that nasa shows us.

https://youtu.be...

"Heaven?" Where in the bible does it say the Earth is encapsulated in solid rock?

It doesn't, I didn't claim this either. This is what the Hebrew conception of earth and heaven is.

https://twiggietruth.files.wordpress.com...

"It is he who sits above the circle of the earth,

Yes, a circle, as in a pizza, or a coin. Circular and flat.

"stretches out the heavens like a curtain" does not mean trapped in a tight space of a solid casing."

Heaven sits above the solid casing.

"These are photos taken of space. Not one photo, not hundred, not one thousand, but hundreds of thousands of photos compiled together to make a map of the universe. Do you honestly believe that each and every one of these photos are fake?

Yes, it's mostly cgi. And the Sophia platform is just a telescope on a plane. There are no satellites.

" That someone spent the time to make millions of fake images, with landmarks leading to wiki pages describing them with paragraphs of fake info? And no, these can not be taken from Earth.

SOPHIA takes pictures like that, from a plane.

" You can browse the site in all directions. If these were taken from earth, the telescope would have to be able to see through the Earth, which is impossible."

No clue what you mean by that. What site?

"And you have failed astronomy"

Way to dodge the point, but no, I took astronomy too, but I realized it's a fairy tale. Kinda like dinosaurs?

"If the Earth is flat, why does sunlight not cover 100% of the earth if it is above the clouds?"

It's like saying this lightbulb should light up this whole wall. It's just closer and smaller, you evaded the proof of this. Those rays are not parall

"Heaven?" Where in the bible does it say the Earth is encapsulated in solid rock? Even the Christian bible supports the earth being round and the belief in outer space.
Isaiah 40:22 "It is he who sits above the circle of the earth,
and its inhabitants are like grasshoppers;
who stretches out the heavens like a curtain,
and spreads them like a tent to dwell in;"
"stretches out the heavens like a curtain" does not mean trapped in a tight space of a solid casing.
What evidence do I have that the hubble telescope exists?

"If you can't figure out that these rays don't point to an object that isn't just above the clouds you probably failed geometry." And you have failed astronomy. The rays of light coming from the sun cover At any time, 50% of the earth is covered by sunlight. If the Earth is flat, why does sunlight not cover 100% of the earth if it is above the clouds?
You staring at the ISS was a waste of time. They do not put satellites anywhere near each other because of the danger of them crashing into each other. Every satellite is thousands of miles apart.

I have posted actual videos of unbiased camera shots of the sun. You can see it exactly that way yourself near sunset/rise, or with a tinted filter. The image you provided of the sun looks nothing like what we see. The star image you provided looks nothing like what I've seen, and anyone with 50 bucks on a clear night can verify.
https://youtu.be...

"but will be outside that enclosure? "

Heaven? It's all speculation because the solid enclosure is impenetrable.

"What evidence do I have for stars being bigger than Earth?"

"Firstly, only rare neutron stars...smaller than the earth. Every... star is millions times larger than Earth. "

This is a baseless claim answered with a baseless claim.

"When the perspective is a picture from the hubble space sattelite, this statement is irrelevant."

What evidence do you have that Hubble starship telescope exists?

" If you were to stand on the sun, if possible, the Earth would also look like a dot."

If the sun were really 93 million miles away, this would be impossible. If you can't figure out that these rays don't point to an object that isn't just above the clouds you probably failed geometry.

"Stars are massive. We have observed them with pictures, videos,"

I have provided some pictures and video of stars, those that anyone can see are very different than what government sources provide.

" telescopes, satelites,"

Have you any evidence that anything orbits the earth? There are supposedly a few thousand satellites orbiting the earth, yes I've not seen one pass in front of the moon, there are none in any of the photos of earth from space, so there's another red flag. And in the videos from the ISS, I've stared at that feed for HOURS. Not one passing satellite.

human eye, from spacecrafts, from the moon, from just about every perspective except from on and inside them

Thanks for the compliment :)
So, this is a picture of the sun
http://i.dailymail.co.uk...
And this is a picture of a red dwarf star named Luyten.
http://milkywaygalaxyatlas.com...
They look similar because they are. They are both dwarf stars. The points of light in the sky are points of light that originate from a star. You say there is a solid enclosure around the earth, but will be outside that enclosure? Space. The enclosure of the earth is actually a gas not a solid. It is named the atmosphere. It protects us from the radiation from the sun and meteorites. If the planet just had
What evidence do I have for stars being bigger than Earth?
Firstly, only rare neutron stars, sometimes created by dying stars, are smaller than the earth. Every other type of star is millions times larger than Earth. You say that "there is whole law perspective thing" When the perspective is a picture from the hubble space sattelite, this statement is irrelevant. "Does that thing really look 93 bazillion miles away?" If you were to stand on the sun, if possible, the Earth would also look like a dot. You used perspective to refute my argument and then tried to use a perspective observation to strengthen your own argument. Why?
Stars are massive. We have observed them with pictures, videos, telescopes, satelites, human eye, from spacecrafts, from the moon, from just about every perspective except from on and inside them. We know stars are massive. I would present sources and evidence, but I am sure you will just simply say something along the lines of "that picture is fake" "That's just a conspiracy to make people believe the earth is round" or "That's just pseudoscience." It is impossible to debate with a flat earther as their motivations in debate are not to learn truths based on fact or evidence, but rather to push an agenda using logic they pulled out of thin air or logic from other flat ear

Love the name! Riven is my main!

"Where are the dozens of millions of stars located?"

In the firmament. A solid enclosure around the earth. Well, it's really over it, since earth is flat, but I digress.

"Are they just tiny balls of light in the sky?"

No, they're points of light in the sky. There is that whole law of perspective thing... Upon closer examination, they appear to be, well, a LOT different than the sun. Modern science has somehow convinced us that most of those points of light are in fact BIGGER than the sun. It's quite ludicrous. They also have convinced us that the sun and moon are NOT the same size, as they appear, AND that the moon is NOT going in the direction we see it going, but the opposite direction, from west to east, just to turn the earth into a ball and get it to spin.

"They are massive objects bigger than planet Earth itself. "

Ha! What evidence do you have for this ridiculous claim?

"They give off enough heat to instantly melt our planet."

This is some great science fiction.

"Our sun is a star."

They certainly don't appear to be alike in any way... take a look under an ultra high zoom camera.

I have no idea how to interpret the rest of your statement.

Where are the dozens of millions of stars located? Are they just tiny balls of light in the sky? No. They are massive objects bigger than planet Earth itself. They give off enough heat to instantly melt our planet. (Exaggerated) Our sun is a star. Most of the specs of light you see at night time are stars. Seeing as the specs of light are more or less the same as our sun, they can not be tiny or within our atmosphere. Hypothetically, if even dozens of thousands of tiny stars, about the size of golf balls I would presume, were within our atmosphere we would experience worldwide temperatures higher than hundreds of degrees Fahrenheit, as all stars give off heat. That being said, stars are not within our atmosphere, or within our space. They are within outerspace so far away that the heat they give off do not reach us.

Reasons for voting decision: Pro had a better argument by bringing up satellites, and how we can only travel so high before we run into issues. Con never really responded to this argument in any rational or objective form. Simply saying that 'you yourself weren't there' is not a case or a defense. While Pro brought up objective points and standards that can be tested and observed, Con turned this into a Philosophy class.
