The Battle of Britain was a very important battle, however it is easy to prove that it was not as important as Stalingrad.

Importance of the Battle of Stalingrad:

-Saved Stalingrad (the second most important city in the USSR)
-Saved the valuable oil-fields at the Caucuses (Grozny, Baku, Maykop, etc) which provided some 95% of Soviet oil [1]
-Saved the British Empire (stopped Germany from breaking into the middle-east which was lightly defended from where they could reach India and Egypt) [2]
-Germany suffered a staggering 850,000 casualties [3]
-This was the largest defeat for Germany
-The entire coarse of the war in Europe changed (in other words this was the most important turning point of the war)
-The Germans were in retreat on a scale never seen before shortly following the end of the Battle of Stalingrad
-Ensured that Turkey would not join the axis

Importance of the Battle of Britain:

-Saved Britain
-Destroyed 1,887 Germany aircraft [4]
-Enabled Britain to continue to resist Germany

After the Battle of Stalingrad, the entire coarse of the war was turned. Before Stalingrad, Germany had been winning. After the defeat at Stalingrad, Germany was losing. Stalingrad was the beginning of the end for Germany.

Although I would agree that the Battle of Britain did play a significant role in the eventual defeat of Nazi Germany, it did not decide the outcome of the war in the way Stalingrad did.

I would also like to add that the only reason Germany did not win during the Battle of Britain was because Hitler ordered his bombers to start bombing major cities (most importantly London) instead of finishing of the RAF. Even after Germany failed to destroy the RAF, perhaps the best option would have been not to postpone Operation Sealion indefinitely and attempt to invade Britain. Hitler however believed Britain was already defeated and that his U-boats would finish Britain off. He believed that Britain's only hope of victory were America and Russia. America, Hitler believed was not capable of fighting Germany since it was run by "blacks and Jews". If Russia could be defeated in the summer of 1941, Britain would make peace. This was Hitler's thinking and although it was incorrect, Hitler moved 3.8 million men to the east in preparation for the invasion of the Soviet Union.

As I have pointed out, Stalingrad, not the Battle of Britain was the turning point of the war. Although the Battle of Britain did perhaps save the island from invasion, the Battle of Stalingrad saved the Soviet Union from total defeat. In addition to this, Stalingrad was the beginning of the end for Hitler.

I would rank the importance of the Battle of Britain with the importance of the Battles of Moscow and Kursk. This is because the Battle of Moscow saved the Soviet capital from being captured. Moscow was the center of the Soviet railroad hub and if the Germans captured Moscow, they would have captured the Soviet Union also. The Battle of Kursk ended all hopes for Germany's survival and destroyed most of the remaining German tanks.

However there is one battle that is more important than the Battles of Britain, Moscow, and Kursk: STALINGRAD!

Reasons for voting decision: Why don't people ever finish debates on this site? Really discouraging to see another potentially good debate forfeited. Seeing as Con never even completed a sentence, Pro gets S&G as well as conduct, sources, and arguments.
