I believe that strict sentencing laws must be maintained because it ensures equal and severe punishment. Falling crime rates show that America's get-tough-on-crime approach works. It prevents lawbreakers from commiting more crimes, and deters others Strict sentencing also guarantees justice will be served. Going "soft" on crime makes society less safe and raises security costs on citizens and businesses.
I believe that strict sentencing laws must be gotten rid of because if we sentence people to strictly they become resentful of society and don't reintegrate well and won't be productive citizens. This resentment may even cause said criminal to repeat their offence. Instead we must rehabilitate criminals in order to make them feel accepted well functioning members of society.
