Every day, hordes of people cross the county's southern border seeking to take advantage of better conditions on the other side - and this places a huge strain on public services such as health care provision.

It is time the Government imposed much stricter entry requirements on visitors from America so as to deny entry to those US Citizens whose main purpose of visit is to exploit Canada's superior public health service. (1)

Even though many Americans are willing to pay for the treatment they receive, this 'health tourism' still means longer waiting times for ordinary, hard-working Canadians who pay for their treatment through their taxes and I, therefore, duly affirm that Canada must impose stricter entry requirements on visitors from south of the border.

Thank you.

Thanks for the subject to debate on..

I don't agree... because that is not the issue. The whole reason that immigration is an issue is because our economy is so bad, and we subsidize it. While maybe a fence would somewhat help... wouldn't it make more sense to stop subsidizing it? Stop giving them free healthcare, jobs etc. Get our economy moving and stop subsidizing it. That is the solution to the problem.

Look back about 100-150 years ago? People came in ALL the time from Europe and it wasn't an issue. Its an issue now because our economy sucks and we subsidize immigration making them want to come over.
That is my stance

I would like to thank BrandonSiler2044 for accepting this debate and for posting "I don't agree... because that is not the issue" before going on to discuss an entirely different subject: immigration into the United States.

This is an innovative debate technique that I have not encountered before and I may well employ myself when the topic of discussion doesn't interest me!

Just to be clear though, this debate actually concerns the proposal to restrict American health tourists placing an undue burden on the Canadian health service, and I duly reiterate that stricter entry requirements should be imposed on visitors from south of the border.

Thank you.

Oh ok well thanks for the specifics. Um well first off, who would want to go into Canada for healthcare? They have had the same crappy healtcare that we have for way longer than we have. There is no reason that the borders should be secured or stricter for that issue. Anyone who goes into Canada for better healthcare is an idiot.. There's is debatebly as bad as ours.

I was hoping this was suppose to be funny because it would have made no sense to say Canada's Healthcare is better.

For that reason, it might be quite interesting to debate an American who favours a clampdown on immigration from Mexico...

Please don't take this debate too seriously, it's just a little parody of the ongoing debate in America concerning immigration from Mexico.

Reasons for voting decision: Con missed the point and missed the joke entirely. I have stopped voting straight 7s a while ago but this one really deserves it. Totally missed the point. Pro was quite funny too.

Reasons for voting decision: While I found Cons statement that "Its an issue now because our economy sucks" to be very convincing, it was on the wrong subject.

Reasons for voting decision: Con went off into a different tangent (state of economy) when discussing the "the proposal to restrict American health tourists placing an undue burden on the Canadian health service"...This and his decision to post arguments in the final round cost a point of conduct....Neither side made arguments, though Con made a few that weren't relevant...
