Social services are fine the way they are. some should even be abolished, or lessened

First of all, I would like to thank my opponent for challenging me to this debate.

Now, we need to define social services. According to Merriam-Webster, social services are activities designed to promote social well-being; specifically : organized philanthropic assistance (as of the disabled or disadvantaged).

Since the resolution is that we should increase them for people in poverty, I can assume that we are not discussing the disabled.

Now, social services can manifest themselves in many ways. It could literally be a check handed to poor people, it could be a soup kitchen, it could be almost anything.

Now, I'm not socialist (though I used to be), but I still believe in helping other people as human beings instead of just subjects. Doing the right thing should always come before anything else, and when we see these people in need, it's not right to not help them.

I am looking forward to your argument!
