DUH It should not be automated (by electricity? what? Please tell)
1) There could be an emergency, power could go out, then no one will be able to get out or do anything. BTW You said FULLY automated.
2) People would lose jobs, and firing people wouldn't save money. OPerating machines cost more.

Please clarify more. :P

My point is that subways should be automated to improve efficiency. Currently(in Toronto), there are drivers in a subway train essentially doing nothing. The door close time and nearly everything could be easily operated with a remote sensor. This would ensure that people could get in and out and the trains would be very on schedule. If a job has no use, then that job should be eliminated. However, these drivers can instead become operators and maintain their livelihood. As my opponent has wanted, I think that if subways were automated and regulated by operators, then subway systems would be faster and greatly improve.

-Thank you

I wait for refutations and hope that I have made myself clear.

The Yurikamome line in Tokyo, an elevated rubber tire train, is completely automated. It's nice because the first car has a large front window for viewing the sights of Tokyo Bay. There is an emergency pull cord to allow passengers to stop in case of emergency. I assume the doors open automatically to access a walkway that is always next to the train.

The San Francisco Bay Area Rapid Transit subway/train system is fully automated, but the uion makes the city put on an operator for imagined safety reasons. From time to time a train leaves without the operator. It makes the news, but it has never led to a problem.
