If people love their tablets at home, why not use them in school to make everything easier for LOTS of people. My opinion is that textbooks should have no place in schools anymore!
Leugen9001

Con

While my opponent may say that replacing textbooks with tablets would improve schooling, a review of the facts suggests that it would do the opposite. My first round of arguments shall focus on two issues: student performance and cost.

But before that, let me rebut my opponent's points. Pro has said that tablets make things easier for students, but has not explained why or how. As such, his case does not stand.

Now let me get to my first point. Tablet usage negatively impacts student performance; students may become distracted by games, websites, and videos while using a tablet. While software can be used to "lock down" tablets, there inevitably would be a tech savvy kid who has found a way to bypass said software, and said method could spread all around a school.

Tablets are also more costly than textbooks. They need electricity and maintenance. They take away money from the school budget that could be spent on training teachers or evaluating the curriculum's effectiveness.

I would say tha tablet are not good for eyes.it can strain our eyes and it also needs a charger for restoring it's energy. In case of book it does not need any charger like thing and it does not strain our eyes.

A critical part of schooling is learning how to effectively research a topic. If we eliminate paper textbooks and replace with tablet then we would make searching for things (in text) a lot easier thereby reducing the required effort by the student. The reduced effort to complete a task reduces the benefit in doing the task. Furthermore by utilizing a search tool (Crtl+F) the student does not skim through as much of the material he/she would be required to otherwise. This can lead to students missing out on critical information that caused an event but was far enough removed from the even to be within a few pages of the search result.

Also computer screens hurt my eyes, because I said they do.

Reasons for voting decision: Like Con said, Pro gave no reasons why and how tablets would make everything easier. Con also brings up student performance and cost and explains why tablets wouldn't be helpful for both reasons. Pro just says tablets will be useful and expects no one to question it. Con wins for conduct (Pro fortified round two) and convincing arguments.
