Hey Shep:

This is one of the few check that only topic we disagree on, so lets debate about it.

I think term limits should be put in to place on both Senators and Representatives, and keep the current ones on the President. There are many reasons why there should be:

1)We would get the true Rep. or Senator we voted for. All the Representatives and senators don't mostly vote on what they believe, they vote on what will keep them in office. For example, if ex-CT Rep. Rob Simmons(R) had to vote on moving out of Iraq or staying in, he might vote to get out, only because it will keep him a rep. This is clearly what he doesn't believe, but that's what people like to see. With the term limits, we would get the true politician that we voted for, not one that wants to stay in office.

2)More people will want to become a politician. In the state of Mass, Ted Kennedy has been a senator for 45 years (he became a senator on November 6, 1962). Yes, he might be a good senator, but he could be driving away better senators. If you were the greatest politician ever, and you ran fr senator against Ted, he would automatically get a good number of votes, just because people don't like change. So why would you want to run against him if you know you will lose, because people don't like change?

3)Younger people will go out and get the job done more than older senators. If you were to have a younger senator who promised to start a bill for term limits, he will go out and get that bill a law. An older person would have less of a chance to go get the bill a law, because they are on the latter part of their career and would rather see a person with their same views, serve another 40 years after you retired from that job after 40 years.

The case will be made what if he was a great president, like Ronald Regan? Well, for both ends of the spectrum, if you had your president in office and was running for re-election and he says one bad thing the other side will get the job. THat's why I feel more comfortable when you have 16+ people running for the job rather than 8 and the president. You have a better chance at getting the right person for the job.

Merry Christmas!!!

Yo, B.Sully,

There is only one reason that I don't like term limits. and I'm not trying to be unconstitutional but This is how I believe

I believe that if we have a great leader...like Ronald Reagan...then he shouldn't be forced to retire from his post after only 2 terms. Reagan was honest, he really cared about his citizens...a attempted assassination couldn't stop him...But, he had to stop after 2 years.

This is what I believe it should be is every 4 years we have a election. The president will be allowed to run in every election if he gets voted out then he's done. This way after 8 years we don't have to start over trying to rebuild this great White House the President had. This way it doesn't turn into a dictatorship or monarchy because every 4 years we have an election but he don't nessisarily have to drop a good president after only 2 terms.

Now really change is good but why change a good thing.

Hey Shep:

Your reason for liking is totally wrong. Ronald Regan was 78 when his term was up. This would make him 82 when his next term was up. Don't you think at that age, you can catch a cold easy out "campaigning". When you are 82 or 78, a cold can leave you in a hospital for weeks or if it is bad enough, you can die. With the term limits, you would get a new, healthy president every 4 or 8 years. You would not have to worry about his health.

"This way after 8 years we don't have to start over trying to rebuild this great White House the President had. This way it doesn't turn into a dictatorship or monarchy because every 4 years we have an election but he don't necessarily have to drop a good president after only 2 terms."-republican

If you really thought that statement over, wouldn't you think that the White House has a better chance of becoming a Dictatorship or monarchy if it stayed 1 president for 16 years?

Thank debating, and Merry Christmas

Hey, bill,

"Your reason for liking is totally wrong. Ronald Regan was 78 when his term was up. This would make him 82 when his next term was up. That is why I would still like to allow the people to vote every 4 years, and it would be taken into account that Reagan would be old so if the peole wanted take a chance with a old but quality president then let them...I would...But if the people believe he is to old and he might get sick don't let them...but don't make a man who could still be a great president retire vjust because he was there for 8 years.

"If you really thought that statement over, wouldn't you think that the White House has a better chance of becoming a Dictatorship or monarchy if it stayed 1 president for 16 years?"

I did think this over and I don't think it really would end in a dictarorship nor a monarchy. I still think that if we allow a vote every 4 years then the people will get away from a president that starts to get power hungry and chose a new fresh president to lead this country right.

Well, I just noticed that this is the last round so I would like to just say this...Term limits are good for a country that likes change...for the better or worse...but in the position we are in right now with foreign policies in bad shape how bad would it be if we have a president negotiating with these foreign countries and he gets along with these foreign countries leaders, but he has to retire b/c of term limits...we have to rebuild that connection our leaders and there's had had because we had to get rid of this president who got along with foreign leaders and rebuild those connections. This potentionally can be bad for our country and our Homeland security.

Merry Christmas to all and to all a good night

When they say term limits, don't they mean term limits for congressmen? I don't think this includes the president. Correct me if I am wrong.
