The 86 Celtics are clearly the greatest NBA team of all time do to not only the fact they had the greatest front court of all time but also had a top 5 player of all time and multiple hall of famers.

Con

The claim that the 86 Celtics are the greatest basketball team of all time is false. Due to the fact that the 96-97 Chicago Bulls are, in fact, the greatest basketball team ever.
This is due to the fact that they won the most games in a single season ever, they had the single best player ever, and they had the most well rounded team ever.

Although the 96 bulls may hold the greater record it doesn't help the fact that the 86 Celtics were stacked with hall of fame players. They easily had the greatest front court of all time with Kevin Mchale , Robert Parish , and Larry Bird. Altogether they averaged 63.2 points, 27.4 rebounds and 4.0 blocks per game on 53.2 percent shooting. Also the competition in 86 was much harder than in 96-97 so even though the Bulls may have ended with a better record the Celtics were still the better team.

It is a well known fact that neither Parish, nor Mchale deserved to be in the hall of fame. They were overrated and are only there because they rode Larry Bird's coattails to fame. He carried that team in every way.

The Bulls, on the other hand were extremely well rounded. They had players that knew their roles and complimented each other perfectly. Their athleticism would have run circles around the plodding, slow Celtics front court. Rodman would have had a field day collecting rebounds against those lesser players.
Michael Jordan was the greatest player to ever play the game. Hands down. His wlli and leadership would carry the 96 Bulls over the 86 Celtics in a 7 game series. The coaching was also vastly superior to the Celtics. Tex's triangle offense revolutionized basketball. The stunned and confused celtics would have been helpless.

The only reason the 86 Celtics had a good record was due to the poor flooring in the garden. They knew what areas had flat spots and would avoid them. Other teams were at a considerable disadvantage playing there.

No single season was dominated in so thorough a manner as the 96-97 Bulls campaign. Night in and night out, they brushed aside team after team after team. That single season record may stand forever. And yes, they topped it with a championship whose outcome was never in doubt. Michael Jordan came back from baseball and vehemently asserted a stranglehold on the NBA. No one was better. Ever.

Rickenbacker said, "It is a well known fact that neither Parish, nor Mchale deserved to be in the hall of fame."

No, that is not a fact. You have made a personal value statement. Furthermore, you erroneously attribute your opinion to the many. In fact, both players are hall inductees.

Rickenbacker said, "Due to the fact that the 96-97 Chicago Bulls are, in fact, the greatest basketball team ever."

That is another opinion. You can cite supporting evidence, but it's still opinion.

I assume you're joking with some of your other claims, especially about the parquet floor. McHale, for example, was a quick and versatile player, with only a handful of players leading in all-time scoring percentage. Jordan was also no alpha around Parrish when Parrish joined the bulls. Jordan told Parrish that he was going to "kick his azz," and Parrish backed him down.

And saying that the Bulls are more well-rounded and played roles better?! Bill Walton was the sixth man and they probably had a deeper bench. Are you really comparing Wennington and Longley to Parrish and Walton? Pippen and Rodman is a step up for your front line claim, but I'd still go with Bird and McHale.

The guard play goes to the Bulls, but they also played with a half dozen more teams in the league, which meant lesser expansion team talent.

It's sort of ironic that someone who cites the triangle offense would so dramatically compare teams from different style eras. The triangle offense philosophy is playing with what you're given, and that is exactly what the Celtics did.

96-97 bulls are not even close to the greatest nba team of all time. Im a bulls fan and even I know they're not. Best bulls team ever was 91-92 bulls. Best nba team of all time is either 86 celtics, 85 or 87 lakers, 71 bucks, or 66 76ers.
