Sports? Or spending hours in the classroom, staring at a smart-screen, jotting down notes against your will? What would you enjoy?
Sports. We all look up to the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo, Messi, Tiger Woods etc. But how did they get where they are now? Physical Education!
Many countries are suffering from high obesity rates. Where I live, Australia, kids obesity rates ranges between 20%. This is alarmingly high. Because of the numerous technology available at our disposal, kids are sitting around, playing FIFA 14 on their precious PS4s. We need to counterattack this by increasing hours in physical education. Kids would become fitter and the next generation of kids won't be new Biggest Loser contestants.
Sports can also act as a relaxation period against work in the classroom. What would you enjoy? Sitting down in a classroom, listening to a teacher droning about physics? Or playing around outside, running around, having fun? Too much hours in the classroom is bad for a student's health, as they spend all day sitting down. Also they would get bored in most subjects. It really depends on the students but I would bet most of them would prefer running around outside.
People say that Phys Ed is a waste of time, and its just running around, not engaging your brain. But they are wrong. Physical Education has an educational side to it too, hence why 'education' is in it. In my personal experience, a learned at lot in Phys Ed classes. The body, drugs, alcohol and sex education is all learning. I learned vital skills in sports, such as soccer, volleyball, co-ordination skills etc. This is all learning. Also it can teach us teamwork skills, as we are playing with other students. There is a competitive edge too; kids would push themselves to be one of the best. These skills may help us in later life.
In conclusion PE needs to be extended in school, increasing hours. It will reduce obesity rates everywhere. It acts as a relaxation period in school. Also it is learning, not running around like headless chickens.

I do not agree with you AsianPersuasion, kids shouldn't become brain dead muscle headed. Those sports starts Christiano Ronaldo and Messi are famous because of their talent not by how much time they trained to work for that. If a student has a liking for science and physics then they can do what their dream is and not waste time doing what they are forced to. We need to realize that and utilize it so that we aren't all the same people playing sport by a variety of people working for different purposes to make a difference in life. If we do apply more hours of sport to the curriculum then you're wasting the teachers time, the students time and everyone's time. There are sports clubs for a reason, to find a source of enjoyment or to have a future career from it. If there are people that are really dedicated to sport they can do it themselves, and if students want to exercise then they can do it themselves. Those that don't well they can become fat and obese, they learn from experience. As a student i try to exercise as much as i can but i have a lot of school work in the way so i have to complete my independent studies to get good grades. That is to get a good job in the future, but i have played different sports for different clubs such as football for Glenroy Football Club, cricket for Pascoe vale Cricket Club and soccer for North City Lions- North City Wolves. They are sports that i enjoyed but i believe students can become what they want and you can't force them to be what they want to be. Schools main purpose is to educate, but mostly on the areas of English, maths, science, humanities and LOTE. Which brings me back to my other point that if they want students can train in their own time and people have talents in different areas that they should work on to make a difference in life. Your turn Zhijie.
