A lot of people are dying because people start taking marijuana. Marijuana is the most commonly abused illicit drug in the United States. A dry, shredded green/brown mix of flowers, stems, seeds, and leaves of the hemp plant Cannabis sativa, it usually is smoked as a cigarette (joint, nail), or in a pipe (bong). It also is smoked in blunts, which are cigars that have been emptied of tobacco and refilled with marijuana, often in combination with another drug. It might also be mixed in food or brewed as a tea. As a more concentrated, resinous form it is called hashish and, as a sticky black liquid, hash oil. Marijuana smoke has a pungent and distinctive, usually sweet-and-sour odor. There are countless street terms for marijuana including pot, herb, weed, grass, widow, ganja, and hash, as well as terms derived from trademarked varieties of cannabis, such as Bubble Gum, Northern Lights, Fruity Juice, Afghani #1, and a number of Skunk varieties. The main active chemical in marijuana is THC (delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol). The membranes of certain nerve cells in the brain contain protein receptors that bind to THC. Once securely in place, THC kicks off a series of cellular reactions that ultimately lead to the high that users experience when they smoke marijuana.
There has not been a single report on any death regarding the usage of marijuana. As far as long cancer goes, there are devices called "the vaporizer" which converts that herb into mist (not smoke) which does not have a single effect on the lungs. Despite the people who use marijuana for fun, there are people who have eating disorders, migraine, and of course, cancer. The government must allow these patients to use marijuana for the sake of their medical problems. People with eating disorders (especially people with cancer who cannot eat from too much depression) use marijuana so their appetite can stay moderate. People with Migraine use marijuana so they can remain calm and suffer less from the symptom. Also, you have no proof when you say "A lot of people are dying because people start taking marijuana". But I have proof when I say "There has not been a single report on any death regarding the usage of marijuana". http://www.medicalmarijuanaprocon.org... |

Reasons for voting decision: sorry, con, but your arguments were based on what your impression from inflated and grandiose media claims. there is a massive body of research going back nearly 350 years suppporting the medicinal and clinical use of marijuana. also, as a canadian, i would far rather see alchohol made illegal and marijuana made legal - bar fights and alchohol-induced violence would plummet and our society would be way more peaceful.

There are people that are aware that they will die within a certain amount of time, because doctors have scheduled it. Shouldn't they, at least, get to do marijuana, just to make life more pleasant for those last couple months or weeks that they are alive. Cigarretes are alot more negatively affecting than vaporized marijuana. Marijuana is not addictive, but purely habit-forming. The media, and school propaganda blow it completely out of proportion.
