By remaining silent on the matter of priests molesting children, the Catholic Church is condoning these activities.

Con

By being "silent" about the child molestation cases, the church is hoping the matter will simply go away. By not dragging on in long conversations and debates about the subject there is less attention on them. Then they are able to handle it in a mature manner without the immaturity of the media.

Therefore, they are not condoning the matter, they are simply taking the matter into their own hands without all of the attention.

By "hoping the matter will simply go away", the Catholic Church isn't being mature or responsible as the moral compass for the Global Catholic Community. More often than not, priests are simply shipped to a new Church where many have been caught molesting children again.

<>

Wrong. They are simply too cowardly to face the public. They don't want to be held accountable for their disgraceful actions of protecting these pedophiles, as well as giving them license to continue their predatory behavior with the children at large.

<>

So then the Catholic Church is being immature when they condemn homosexuality, abortion and "living in sin"? No. They're quite vocal when they choose to be heard, but frightened when their stranglehold on their followers is in danger of weakening.

<>

Therefore, they are condoning Child Rape by not joining forces with the law to prosecute their protected criminals, the pedophile-priests.

By being silent they are trying to disgrace the church as little as possible. A church that has been around since about 50 A.D. A church that has with stood time itself, when many others fell.

They do not condone Child Molestation through its silence, they choose silence because they do not condone it.

Actually since 2001, it is no longer up to local bishops the fate of the accused. Now it is reserved to the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith in Rome.

As for the accused priests being "shipped" to a new church, they are not. They are actually dismissed.

Lastly the church has always spoken out against homosexuality and abortion; however, that is not the subject of this debate!

The church is one, but your body is also one. If your right foot was infected and needed to be sliced off would you say let's just get euthanasia because my whole body is really at fault here. The church has lack of leadership but it does speak out and try to correct it's mistakes in compromising generously on law suits and now it does actually deal with the priests instead of shifting them around. My original point is that you have to take this in context, this is a purely American Catholic Church problem, while I agree there may have been some cover-ups up the ladder, that doesn't appear to be the case anymore and I think that the American sector needs to do a better job of cleaning this mess up. You can't blame the whole body for the foot's defect.

It is rediculous to say that silence is advocance. The Catholic Church is very condemning of priest molestors. How do I know? I go to a Catholic Church. They won't shutup about how evil these preists are.

Listen, I am not Catholic. The Church has the same flaws as every religion on Earth. But don't think that silence is advocance.

It is a proven fact that the percentage of fathers who sexually molest their children is much higher than that of priests who sexually molest children.

The Catholic church is keeping silent about all of the situations due to lack of leadership. They do not want to have to deal with all of the outbreaks (3 of the 4 Catholic churches in my town had priests who were child molesters and sent to different churches, this happened within the same year). Secondly, yes they do relocate them, usually to a different country or state. So I don't think they condone it, but they are not doing the right thing by trying to ignore the problem.

Okay the cases you are most likely talking about are the ones in Boston , the sex scandal under Cardinal Law. First off remember something, these cases happened at a time where everyone kept this stuff silent. Also the parents of the victims kept silent. They never went to the police, does that mean that they are also condoning child rape? It was the times , it was wrong but again that was unfortunately what was done then. I personally am glad that as a society people are no longer quiet about stuff like this. The Catholic church does NOT condone child rape.

I never said that the Pope hides the priests, if you read my argument you can see what I say on that!
I was agreeing that the church is one

EXACTLY. The rapes may happen all over the world, but the Pope is the one who hides the priests. Thanks for agreeing with me!!

Actually, you can say can associate the Catholic Church in the US with the the main one in Rome for this matter because Rome deals with the molestation cases!!

Again, I disagree. Massachusetts is Massachusetts, not California. It is a state, just as the Catholic Church is the Catholic Church. And you can't compare a small, single state to a GLOBAL influence.

That's ridiculous. That would be like saying that because Massachusetts allows gay marriage that the U.S. is a country that allows gay marriage. That's guilt by association.
