The Constitution was not originally an economic document created to protect the founders property, as Charles Beard originally stipulated. I intend to show at least a majority of the following statements to be true: (My opponent may choose to debate a single issue of the following, or several)
1. The constitution was pro-slavery
2. The constitution does not allow unilateralist secession
3. The constitution was not a loose confederation, but instead a strong union
4. The constitution was pro-democratic.

Once my opponent argues for whichever he would like, the debate will continue.

I thank my opponent for the debate and the readers for this opportunity.

I shall negate Pro's first selection, "1. The constitution was pro-slavery."

Of course, it shall be assumed that my opponent and I are referring to the U.S. Constitution.

If one looks at the U.S. Constitution, Amendments XII-XIV, that person would notice that Amendment XIII prohibits slavery. Obviously, the U.S. Constitution cannot be pro-slavery if it prohibits slavery. Topic negated. Thank you.

Apparently, my opponent hasn't mastered the concept of verb tense in the english language. If he read what I said, I first say "the Constitution was not originally an economic document" which implies the original constitution in its draft, but further, I say "the constitution was pro-slavery." It's obvious that the constitution is no longer, however, the structure of the sentence implies that it originally was. It's like saying "George washington was a man," and his response is, well, George Washington isn't alive anymore, and thus, he can't be a man. I ask that instead of trying to cop out of the argument, he construct a thoughtful, cogent and constructive argument to prove that the constitution WAS not pro-slavery.

This debate was wasted. If Pro had actually written a resolution, this may have been more productive.
