First round is acceptance

I shall be against the argument 'The Falkland Islands (Las Malvinas) should be given to Argentina '

No semantics, vulgarity or ad hominems please!

Good Luck :)

I strongly disagree with the statement "The Falkland Islands (Las Malvinas) should be given to Argentina" for a plethora of reasons. My first and strongest argument is the wishes of those who live on the Islands themselves. The United Nations (a group that both the UK and Argentina are part of) has a firm policy regarding self determination. In fact, one of the purposes of the UN is : "To develop friendly relations among nations based on respect for the principle of equal rights and self-determination of peoples" (http://www.un.org...).

As two democratic nations, Argentina and the UK should keep arrangements as they are because in a referendum regarding sovereignty, 99.8% of Falkland Islanders declared that they want to remain British (http://www.theguardian.com...). There was a turnout of over 90% and only three Falkland Islanders said they wouldn"t "wish the Falkland Islands to retain their current political status as an overseas territory of the United Kingdom". In this day and age we should respect the wishes of all people, including the Falkland Islanders. I see no way the Argentinians could justify forcing people to live under a government they don't wish to, or leave the lives they have built for themselves and move 8000 miles to the UK.

I look forward to my opponent's response. Good Luck :)

My opponent has forfeited this round and his account has been disabled. I think it is fair to say I have the upper hand in this debate. Thanks :)

Consider yourself privileged...Rational Madman accepted your debate. If I may say so, I'm surprised it's taken Airmax this long to figure him out.
