I don't have an argument, I'm doing this for school and I'm unfortunately for it. Today we debated and this resulted.

Basically the opposition is all
1) Omgz it's so bad for the environment, it'll destroy everything - If someone can find that the Dam will be better for the future that will be great
2) Seismic faults will cause everything to be destroyed - My rebut was that Vanouver and San Francisco are plagued with faults but hey people still live there and Hawaii has like 6 valconoes yet people are fine there. What can you do about it? Not much- if anyone can find information on that it would be appreciated
3) The power being privately owned and people having to pay for energy they do not use - I don't know how to rebut this
4) People being displaced and what not - well they would be displaced anyway due to future flooding with or without the dam and many would probably die

PLEASE GIVE ME YOUR THOUGHTS AND FACTS THANK YOU I HATE LOSING

I am far from environmentalist, but China's construction and power production methods are terrible for the environment. They use a large number of coal plants to produce their power. So the process of construction is horrible for the environment. But once the dam becomes operational, it'll provide a ridiculous amount of clean energy.

It will, however, displace several communities nearby.

Privately owned utilities are a great thing. Kinda clashes with the communist ideal, though. People pay for power they don't need under the communist system. But normally, you pay the State. Now some dude is raking in the big bucks because of the communist philosophy, and not the state. The State doesn't like that, but it's completely legal. Watch and see, he'll "slip and fall" or his "brakes will go out" or come down with "a mysterious illness" or even become a "victim of random violence". Or the State will bend the rules so they can arrest him and take control of the thing.

My rebut to your rebut is that san francisco doesn't have a huge dam holding back millions of gallons of water. Just a lot of earthquake resistant buildings. The surge from the breaching of a completed three gorges would be monumental and devastating.
