The Quran allows muslim men to own sex slaves/concubines
Debate Rounds (3)
1. A woman who cohabits with a man without being legally married to him.
2. In certain societies, such as imperial China, a woman contracted to a man as a secondary wife, often having few legal rights and low social status.
1. a person who is the legal property of another and is forced to obey them.
Sexual slavery is the the slavery of unwilling people for sexual exploitation.
The Quran contains several verses that allow Muslim men to:
1. Have female sex slaves or at least females who can be referred to as concubines
2. Take female prisoners of war as sex slaves or at least concubines
Amongst others, here are some of the verses. Some of the said verses are supplemented with commentaries by popular Islamic scholars.
O Prophet, We have made lawful for thee thy wives whom thou hast given their wages and what thy right hand owns, spoils of war that God has given thee, and the daughters of thy uncles paternal and aunts paternal, thy uncles maternal and aunts maternal, who have emigrated with thee, and any woman believer, if she give herself to the Prophet and if the Prophet desire to take her in marriage, for thee exclusively, apart from the believers -- We know what We have imposed upon them touching their wives and what their right hands own -- that there may be no fault in thee; God is All-forgiving, All-compassionate.
[Most certainly true believers] . . . guard their private parts scrupulously, 6 except with regard to their wives and those who are legally in their possession, for in that case they shall not be blameworthy.
Commenting on this verse, famous Pakistani scholar Abul A'la Maududi states:
Two categories of women have been excluded from the general command of guarding the private parts: (a) wives, (b) women who are legally in one’s possession, i.e. slave-girls. Thus the verse clearly lays down the law that one is allowed to have sexual relation with one’s slave-girl as with one’s wife, the basis being possession and not marriage. If marriage had been the condition, the slave-girl also would have been included among the wives, and there was no need to mention them separately.
Also, it is clear from these verses that men are allowed to have sex with these women as they state that men do not have to "guard their private parts" around them.
Other quranic verses which refer to female sex slaves are:
Clearly the women being referred to here are not dealing with wives but women that a muslim man can legally have sex with without being married to them. Ath the very least, these women are known as concubines and historical evidence suggests that Muhammad had many concubines of his own.
I could quote several ahadith which further elaborate my point, but since many people in this community argue that ahadith are not reliable , I have refrained from doing so.
Please note that I am not arguing that having sex slaves or concubines is immoral (even though I think it is). I am only arguing that keeping sex slaves is specifically allowed in the Quran.
Please argue against the idea that having sex slaves or at least concubines is allowed in the Quran.
When men demand sex from women, it is traditionally at night or whatever, and, the women have a right to refuse, or, refuse anyway! this means that if the man was demanding sex, there would be violence, yes? That is far from the truth, as, we are not bombarded by pictures of women with black eyes and stuff from the area, so, have no evidence that this takes place a lot, if at all.
If you were to read your Koran, and it told you to go around killing sheep on a certain day, then there would be a religious bias towards killing sheep. this would lead to the authorities getting involved from other areas in the world, and, the killing of sheep would not continue at such a rate. Now we are talking about human beings, and, if the authorities have not tried to stop the violence against women by now, there must not be a problem.
How could they stop this violence? Well, if they were to send missionaries there - and the Christian church would definitely do that to convert as many people as they could - then the area would be filled with gap year students. It is not, it would be easy to do, there appears to be no problem due to the evidence.
