The state of Utah has repeatedly violated the constitution of the United States of America by using LDS (mormon) beliefs to deny minority rights in the state. The neg must prove that in the context of federal supremacy the state of Utah is not a theocracy.

While I am no huge fan of LDS, and will admit that the church does indeed exert mass influence over the state it largely founded, I intend to prove that this does not make it a theocracy, but rather a democratic state much like the other 50.

Over to you!

Huh, didn't see the timer was set so short.

My argument is that Utah, while occasionally defiant of the US government, is not in fact a separate entity and still participates in federal program, allows federal police to enforce federal law within their borders, calls on the federal reserve, and generally participates in the democratic system of the United Stated.

Hence, they are NOT a theocracy.

...furthermore Utah is a theocratic police state with constitutional rights denied regularly at the state and local level including privacy, unreasonable search and seizure, due process... and sufficient proof to withstand.

Reasons for voting decision: Con's federal argument far outweigh the 'Mormon' influence argument of Pro as Con provided more instances of why it is so. That along with forfeits constitutes all 4 points to Con.
