I am making this debate in honor of Caramel and Popcorn, the two turkeys being pardoned by President Obama this year. I believe that the president should not have this power to pardon.First round for acceptance and definitions.

Pardon: The forgiveness of a crime and the cancellation of the relevant penalty.

From the US constitution: "The President shall be Commander in Chief of the Army and Navy of the United States, and of the Militia of the several States, when called into the actual Service of the United States; he may require the Opinion, in writing, of the principal Officer in each of the executive Departments, upon any subject relating to the Duties of their respective Offices, and he shall have Power to Grant Reprieves and Pardons for Offenses against the United States, except in Cases of Impeachment."

Thus, the president has the power to forgive criminals.

First of all, it's better if you make it clear that what the constitutional law has to do with Caramel and popcorn and two lucky turkeys that will not be among the estimated 46 million turkeys Americans consume on Thanksgiving every year.

And explain it.
"Thus, the president has the power to forgive criminals."

Wow, that would have sucked for Eugene Debs (and others thru out history). Of course it's a double edged sword and could be an interesting debate.
