The US government is intent on vilifying the Iranian government for its nuclear ambitions. The official positions of the US government are that "a nuclear-armed Iran is not acceptable" and "all options" are on the table, including a unilateral preemptive strike. For the United States, the only nation to ever use nuclear weapons and the nation with the largest stockpile, to tell a nation surrounded by nuclear states that it must stop enriching uranium is not only hypocritical, it also smacks of paternalism.

One principle which has been recently ignored in US foreign policy, often at great cost, is "talk rather than fight". Iran has expressed an interest in normalizing with the US (http://english.daralhayat.com...), so why are we so eager to rattle the sabers? The Iranian people want their society and their economy to become relevant in the world, and warming up once-chilly relations with the biggest superpower in the world is in their best interest. In order to be effective, we must wield the carrot rather than the stick if we wish to curb Iran's nuclear ambitions.

Well I don't see much point in posting any new arguments here so I'll just leave my original arguments for my opponent to refute should he choose to do so.

Well this is disappointing, if anyone wants to actually debate this with me and thinks that they can make a logical argument for a preemptive war I would love to hear it. And vote pro, I suppose.
