It's estimated that 400,000 people have died in Syria due to the war and life expectancy has dropped 14 years [1], prompting the displacement of 6.6 million people (including millions of children) and an addition 4.8 million who have fled the country out of fear for their lives [2].

I am arguing that the United States must accept more refugees.

I don't think we should take on all 6.6 million people.

I don't think we should take on all 6.6 million people, either. My argument is that the US should accept more than it is already.

The United States took in a total of about 12,000 Syrian refugees so far in 2016 [1] but that is not sufficient as many smaller countries have taken in hundreds of thousands of refugees.

A main argument against the settling of refugees is worries about ties to ISIS. However, most refugees are people fleeing ISIS and the damage it has done. They also must go through an extreme vetting process with four seperate government agencies before being accepted [2] In the United States "only about a dozen " a tiny fraction of one percent of admitted refugees " have been arrested or removed from the U.S. due to terrorism concerns that existed prior to their resettlement in the U.S. None of them were Syrian." [3] It should also be mentioned that 94% of terrorist attacks in the US since 1980 weren't by Muslims [4].

So, no, let's not accept 6.6 million people, but we could do a little better.

Well Donald Trump thinks differently and he isn't going to allow them to come to the USA. We are at war with Muslim radical jihadist that desire the destruction of the USA. What your saying has merit but unless there is a screening process to screen all the people coming in then they aren't going to let them in. My point is that the USA isn't a police state and the worlds protector. If the Syrians want freedom they need to turn around and fight ISIS and president Bashar Al Assad. Until they can establish freedom. In other word if the USA was invaded by North Korea or China or Russian of the ISLAMIC STATE I will take up arms and fight for the UNITED STATES OF AMERICA. I love this nation and I don't care what people say or think about the USA. I love the USA and will die for this nation. I think that the Syrians should do the same for their country instead of running they should fight for their nation and for freedom.

You say that Syrians should fight ISIS instead of fleeing but I would like to point out that half of the refugees are children [1]. No one should expect children to take up arms and fight ISIS, especially when 8 out of 10 already show signs of PTSD [1]. This is a humanitarian crisis. If you think that the adults should be fighting then at least help out the millions of displaced kids.

First of all the USA is stretched thin and they don't have the man power or resource to be every where in the world. That is the purpose of the UNITED NATIONS it is there job to deal with other nations and the problems of the world. The UN Charter sets out four main purposes: Maintaining worldwide peace and security. Developing relations among nations. Fostering cooperation between nations in order to solve economic, social, cultural, or humanitarian international problems.http://study.com...

It is not the USA place to be the police state nor the global superpower of the world the USA isn't equipped to deal with all the worlds problems their is no point of the UN if it isn't going to do its job. Like I said your argument has merit but your directing it at the wrong country. Instead of the USA being provider the UN is suppose to be the provider for Syria in the time of crisis and need.

Taking in refugees forces us to take on their problems along with our own. We have too many problems of our own already. Humans are the dominant species of this planet due to evolution and the main function of evolution is survival of the fittest. Let the refugees fend for themselves. Do not baby them. If they can't survive on their own then allow evolution to do it's job and remove them. The human population constantly increasing needs to stop anyway because otherwise it will produce issues vastly more destructive than the issues we face today. Death rates need to match birth rates or refugees will eventually be one of the least of your worries.

I'm not completely against taking in refugees but there is a "financial issue" being addressed and I still did not hear, "We will do as you say if our department is fully funded for boarder security." Or something along those lines.

On the other hand poor profiling is not helping this country and our priority should be Women and children(17 and under) as long as them agree to take the steps towards citizenship. Honestly can go for 2 millions plus right here with support from local churches.

We need to find other ways to fund for safe heavens with deserters or laborers....it sucks but we have our own problems but we should still help.
