The UN's basic philosophy is both anti-American and pro-totalitarian. Our Declaration of Independence proclaims the "self-evident" truth that "men … are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable rights." But, in its Covenant on Civil and Political Rights, the UN ignores God's existence, implies that it grants rights, and then repeatedly claims power "as provided by law" to cancel them out of existence. If any government can place restrictions on such fundamental rights as freedom of speech, the right to keep and bear arms, freedoms of the press, association, movement, and religion, soon there will be no such freedoms.

The UN was founded by Communists and CFR members whose common goal was a socialist world government. Sixteen key U.S. officials who shaped the policies leading to the creation of the UN were later exposed in sworn testimony as secret Communists. These included Alger Hiss, chief planner of the 1945 founding conference, and the Assistant Secretary of the Treasury, Harry Dexter White. The Soviet Union under Stalin and the entire Communist Party USA apparatus worked tirelessly to launch the UN. Since its beginning in 1921, the Council on Foreign Relations (CFR) has always worked for world government. The key CFR founder, Edward Mandell House, in his book, Philip Dru: Administrator, called for "Socialism as dreamed of by Karl Marx …" The CFR was an early promoter of the UN, and 43 members of the U.S. delegation at the UN founding conference were or would become CFR members.

To begin, I'd like to thank TheConservative for choosing an interesting topic on which we can debate.

My opponent's first argument is that the United Nations is anti-American because they do not mention 'God' in their Covenant on Civil and Political rights; as compared to the Declaration of Independence which states that "these truths are self evident... men … are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable rights." The gist of my opponent's point is that 'God'=America and no'God'=United Nations=Not America. I believe that in the Declaration of Independence, the statement that 'God' granted the rights is not as important as the idea that rights were granted at all, and the same goes true with the UN . Although their mentioning of a deity varies, this is irrelevant, as they both share the concept that humans are born with basic rights, which is not in opposition to American values or ideals at all.
I am confused with the next part of my opponent's first paragraph, and I hope that he will clarify in his response. However, I think it should be noted that the United Nations Covenant on Civil and Political Rights does not include the words 'as provided by law' in it.

The next argument contends that the United Nations was created by communists in order to advance the creation of a 'socialist world government.' Although I agree that a single sovereign world government would be a problem, the United Nations does not seek to create a sole nation. Their first intent is to work to maintain peace at an international level. They do this in a variety of ways, whether it be by promoting human rights (American value) in the darker corners of the world, sending physical troops 'donated' by various nations to maintain peace in troublesome areas, (In 2005 RAND Corp, an America-centered defense Non-Profit, said are 2 out of three times peace keeping by the UN is successful)or by supporting the social and economic development of the most impoverished nations.(Judeo-Christian value, charity)
In my opinion, my opponent is confusing a 'world government' with an organization that has been able to prevent wars as consuming as WWII, through a medium of diplomacy and negotiation.
My opponent implies that because accused communists supported the UN's creation, the UN is harming the United States. Once again, I don't really understand, and I would like for my opponent to explain and exemplify how harm has been done.

Clearly, the interests of the United States are not being harmed with its membership in the United Nations.

It's sad that the debaters forfeited the rounds ~ this could have been an interesting debate. However I'm voting Con because Pro did not persuade me to vote affirmative (probably because he only wrote for one round). Con effectively argued him in Round 1 meaning that I have to give him my vote.
