The bible is merely a collection of stories that contradict themselves. Stories in the bible vary from one author to another and none of these accounts were witnessed by the ones writing the stories. It's all rumor passed on and dramatically changed from one person to another.

I have just a few questions for you which I will number for simplicity.
1. Where/by whom were you given the knowledge as to the authenticity of the bible?
2. How can anyone prove that the bible is true or false?
3. Without being able to question the authors (who were apparently divinely influenced to write the bible) how can one question their authenticity?
4. How can even argue something that is unknown to all?

You are taking a shot at a collection of books which form the bible. The bible is essentially a book of faith. that is a book where nothing can be proven definitively, however it is to be BELIEVED through FAITH. It is impossible to argue the validity of the bible. We can argue the contents of the bible, however that is purely an exercise in futility due to the fact the any argument would be based on interpretation. That is you may read a verse one way, and find your own meaning to it, and I may read that same verse and have a completely different take on it. Hence why there are 100's of different denominations which all interpret the bible differently. To simply state that the bible is riddled with contradictions, and that it is inherently false is absurd. The burden here is for you to prove its false, which is an impossible feat. No one can prove it one way or the other.

Of the authors...of the many books, we are either in complete ignorance, or at any rate in doubt...Furthermore, we do not know either the occasions or the epochs when these books of unknown authorship were written and we cannot say into what hands they fell, nor how numerous variations originated nor lastly whether they were not other versions now lost.
We may then not be certain that every event which is truly described in Scripture necessarily happend. The bible is contrary to reason and therefore absurd. It The bible proves to us that it is easy to tell a lie but hard to support a lie after it is told. the writer of the book of Mathew should have told us who the saints were that came to life again and went into the city and what became of them afterward and who it was that saw them.

Again its your burden to definatively prove the bible is false. Your questions are valid, however your explainations are suspect. You claiming the bible is full of false stories is like me saying I know the origins of the universe. I could be right and I could be wrong. No one knows. Same goes with the bible, it could be false and it could be true. No one knows. You can BELIEVE whatever you want, but don't attempt to state an unknown as a fact. You never answered any of my questions to you either.

I am still waiting for the answers to the previously mentioned questions. I will not continue to make my point until you have responded to me. I'm not one for one sided discussion.

How on earth can you call the prophecies concerning Media and Persia and Geece ambiguous? The Book of Daniel plainly states in Chapter 8 that the visions pertain to these empires. It even talks about Greece being ruled by one king (Alexander the Great) but that four kingdoms would arise out of that (Alexander's four generals and the kingdoms they rule, but not with the power that Alexander had.

Of course it is rather convienent that some would say that Daniel was written after the facts.

The so-called "prophecies" of the Book of Daniel are hardly clear and unambiguous predictions. It takes a good deal of after-the-fact interpretation to propose that Daniel "predicts" the Greek and Roman empires, especially if, as many believe, the book itself was actually written around the time of the occupation of Palestine by the Greek empire. If the writer of Daniel was that great at the prophecy business, then where is the prediction of the Byzantine Empire's control of Palestine (around 313 AD) or the conquest of the region by the Arabs about 300 years later?

Not to mention the prophecies in the Book of Daniel concerning the rise of the different empires. How could have Daniel known about the Greek Empire or the coming Roman Empire without being divinely inspired?

The Bible can be proven true, in ALL historical claims? Are you counting the book of Genesis in that?

the bible can be proven true. And I invite anybody to take me up on that.
The bible has been time and time again proven historically accurate on everything that can be double checked from the Roman Occupation of Israel To Jesus's Execution, To the Travels of Paul, the bible has been PROVEN to be correct in every single historical claim it has made except the ones were we fail to find any evidence to support or disprove it. Heck even the Israeli exile from Egypt is historically backed t hough no one can prove the parting of the red sea.

taken07 your references are outstanding "a number of authors" Just because someone writes something in a book doesn't mean it's true, in factthats the premise of your whole argument isn't it?
