I believe that the drinking age should be raised to 21 because people below that age don't make great decisions under the influence. The amount of deaths caused by alcohol abuse is 15 people a day! On average that is 5,554 people in a year! And the amount of admissions to a hospital for alcohol related injuries in 2010 is 157,132 in one whole year. People make bad choices when under the influence and most of these people are 18 years or older. If the drinking age in Australia was raised to 21 then the amount of deaths would slightly decrease. Even if it was decreased by 10. That would be 10 less people that all of their families and friends would miss. That's 10 people that could make a difference. Maybe one of them would live on and become Prime Minister or even a famous singer that earns around 1 million dollars each that they donate half of it to a charity that would save even MORE lives. If the drinking age was raised to 21, Australia would be a much better place.

Okay. In my eyes, I believe that 18 years old is a very reasonable drinking age as for most people (with some exceptions), the year they turn 18 is when they graduate high school. For most people, they feel like much more of a freed person and would love to go have fun with their friends -- and drink.
Also, you may not have heard of this event called "Schoolies". It's an event where teenagers who are finally graduating high school get to go and have fun, celebrating their graduation. What would these people do if Schoolies wasn't a thing? It's their way to blow off steam and have fun. I mean, even if you don't exactly enjoy drinking, you've seen people go on spring break in movies, and I am CERTAIN that you have at least ONCE though that it would be fun to do that.
Besides, as much as I hate to say it, people (especially rebellious teenagers) don't exactly follow the laws. This means that people would most likely go and drink anyway, whether the legal drinking age is changed or not.
As you say, they could become Prime Minister or they could become a world famous singer, what else could they become? Think about it. If these people are REALLY making these choices at their age, do you think they'd get to become a Prime Minister for the country?
18 is a very good legal drinking age for Australia.

If you would pay attention to the news, there was a girl called Jasmine Baker who went to Schoolies to celebrate her and her friends gradating High School. Because she was the legal age, 18, her and her friends went to a popular nightclub in the heart of Bali's tourist district and had a few drinks. One of Jasmine's drinks didn't come straight from a can or a bottle which means it was probably a mixed drink. Of course, not suspecting anything, she drank it and a few hours later, her eye-sight became blurry, she went dizzy and then she went temporarily blind. This was all a case of Methanol poisoning which you can get by drinking cheap, hand mixed alcoholic drink. In the exact place in Bali, another girl and her group of friends ordered a drink. Half way through her drink, she started to feel very ill and her eye sight went hazy. When she vomited, she freaked out because the colour of her vomit was black. A few minutes later, she lost her eye sight and started to scream. Her friends took her to a near bathroom where she fainted on the floor and started to cough up blood and was bleeding from her nose. She is lucky to still be alive. Another case of Methanol poisoning from alcohol was a man named Liam Davies who was 19 years old. He DIED after a drinking session with mates on an island in Indonesia on New Year"s Eve 2012, for, again, schoolies. If the government raises the drinking age to 21, the age when people start to earn more money, then they will more likely buy slightly more expensive drinks so then the drink quality is better and where there is a slightly smaller chance of getting poisoned on the time where they are supposed to have fun on Schoolies.
