Pro

First round is acceptance.
If there are any questions about the resolution, they should be asked in the comments section prior to acceptance. The resolution, character limit, and number of rounds are non-negotiable. The rules I've listed below may be changed if a logical reason to do so is presented.

-> Rules <-
- No semantics
- Be courteous
- Arguments must be as concise as possible
- Argument may be based on evidence, but arguments may not be evidence

Let's have a fun round!

I accept the challenge.

I am not exactly sure what we are going to be debating, and Pro has not gotten back to me on it yet. I have waited to give him as much time as possible, but it looks like I will just find out in the next round.

I will contend that it is justified and necessary to resist an establishment that creates a social order incompatible with the principles of justice, liberity, and morality and that it is unacceptable to comply with the orders of such an institution.

I await Pro's argument.

:(

Well, maybe Pro will eventually come back.

Argument, so that if Pro does not come back I will technically win:

Civil disobediance is better because it is more exciting.

If Pro comes back I'll just concede that argument is insufficient and he will still have the first word. For now it counts because he has no rebuttal.

Coconuts, do not fear the Grape. He was squished under the mighty heel of izbo, you can do it you just need an epic training montage :

A lot depends on what you mean by debate, if you are talking competitive then compromise and be fair really are not part of it. William Lane Craig for example is really unfair in many ways but he doesn't approach it as an exchange. Craig is there to win and usually the other guy doesn't know what is going on as they often show up to have a conversation. This gets so lopsided that Craig's opponent ends up getting visibly frustrated and then has a blog-fit after it is over.

Yeah, there are many characteristics of a good debater: being clarity of voice, research, flexibility of skill, eloquence, tolerance of other views, and perhaps willingness to compromise arguments and to argue with all due fairness.

That is why debaters who fail to recognize this (including myself, at a time) are chastised, whether by their losses, or by members of this website.

It is obvious that being informed and being able to research is a skill which should be part of the rank, but should it totally dominate? This is one of the reasons why I respect Danielle's debating ability as she can offer solid arguments over a very wide range of topics though for example she would be extremely hard pressed to handle Grape on this topic specifically. Not to imply Grape can only debate this issue but it is just one which has a has a very high passion for and has well developed arguments loaded.

"I need to find out exactly what I'm debating, though "

Most of the resolutions are intentionally flexible to allow a very diverse argument. This is one of the basic principles of the ELO ranking debates to prevent artificial inflation from debating skill being overshadowed by which participant is just more informed/familiar.

"Disruption of private enterprise/property rights?"

Correct.

I was pretty sure he was referring to me and so was CirRk. This isn't my the resolution I would choose to outline my position, but it works. I need to find out exactly what I'm debating, though :P

But obviously it wasn't obvious."

Well, among the debaters here, it wasn't. Maybe it was obvious for you, to think that Grape would take this debate instantaneously...
