The Death Star would defeat a Borg Cube. It has both defensive and offensive advantages over the Cube, which would allow it to gain total victory.

Defensively, there can be no question as to the Death Star's superiority. True, Borg ships can adapt to almost any weapon discharge after a few strikes. However, the planetary shield boasted by the second Death Star fends off any attack without a prior hit. The "prior hit" requirement might not be a large issue in most cases, but in the case of the Death Star's superlaser, one hit can be all it takes.

Offensively, the Cube's weapons are laughable compared to the Death Star. The few dozen slow-recharge cutting beams used by the Cube could not hold a candle to the hundreds of turbolaser batteries that coat the Death Star. Even assuming the Borg could adapt to these weapons, the onslaught that would be faced in the few moments of fire needed to adapt would be enough to decimate the Cube. (A Cube can recover from up to 75% destroyed body, and a superlaser discharge combined with several seconds of full turbolaser barrage would be more than enough to comply.)

Another strength held by the Death Star is the amount of support it carries with it. Cubes travel in packs, whereas the Death Star carried its support as a part of itself. (As the Death Star is a space station, the ships it carries with it are a valid part of its offensive capabilities.) A Cube's defenses are well suited to fending off large ships such as those Starfleet uses, but it demonstrates the same weakness as the first Death Star: Its defense grid is not tight enough to throw off a barrage of starfighters. The Death Star carries over 700,000 TIE starfighters, which can be an impressive force if one's defenses are not meant to handle it.

In terms of crew compliment, the Death Star again has the advantage. Legions of Borg would be faced with much larger legions of Stormtroopers. True, drones are fierce warriors, but the Death Star boasts compliments of 1400 AT-ATs and another 1400 AT-STs, in addition to over one million infantry units. This is enough to withstand any siege against the shield generator, as well as mount a sufficient offensive if need be.

One final note: A ship is only as good as its captain. The Borg collective is one of the deadliest entities imaginable, but not even the Borg Queen could stand up to a Sith Lord. Palpatine was the commander of the second Death Star, so his powers should be considered as part of the base's capabilities. It has been documented that Imperial troops have their fighting prowess augmented by Palpatine's Dark Side powers, not to mention his ability to conjure Force Storms, which would be more than sufficient to destroy a Cube, if need be. As long as the Dark Side is leading the Death Star, it does not need the massive technological advantages it possesses: the Force is with it.

Even assuming the Borg could mount an effective ground campaign against the planetary shield generator, the cube itself would be decimated long before the generator would be taken. I again stress the massive power advantages the Death Star holds over the cube.

There is no sound tactical basis for the Borg to win an battle with Death Star. I have shown that any space battle would be over in seconds, and any ground assault on the shield generator would be a long, drawn out struggle. (Much more than the five or six seconds needed to charge the superlaser.)

Even if, for some unforeseeable, unthinkable reason, the battle was turning against the Death Star and Palpatine, there is one final advantage the Death Star has to fall back on: it is the size of a moon. All it would have to do to end any battle is literally run over it's opponent. (A Borg cube is a measly 3x3x3 KM. The second Death Star is nine HUNDRED KM across, wide, and tall.)

The only way for a Borg cube to survive combat against the Death Star is to hop into warp and run away. If it's lucky enough to last that long.

"Commander, you may fire when ready. It is time to wipe out this annoying flea."
"Yes, Lord Vader. Fire control, at your leisure."

*SHWAPPPOW!*

"Lord Vader, the Borg ship has been successfully destroyed."
"Good. Now, bring in the Federation delegation and we will continue our diplomatic talks."
"But, Lord Vader, surely the Emperor would not approve of--"
"The Emperor is dead. If you go to his quarters, you will find him facedown in his mashed potatoes. To use an ancient euphemism, "something went down the wrong pipe." And of course, I and my force choking powers had nothing to do with it. Dispose of the body."
"Ye-yes Lord Vader."

This debate is being redone as soon as Thrawn's ISP stops being terrible.

This started as a devil's advocate position for me, but I've since switched sides. The Death Star truly is superior. If your enemy has a superlaser, then all the adaptation and assimilation in the world can't stop the rock.

I'm not a trekkie, did they have lightsabers? I think this all hinges on the lightsabers.

I disagree. The first death star (which was actually the superior death star since the second one was still being constructed) was destroyed by some country bumpkin from Tattoine. This happening only suggest that the Death Star's defenses are laughable. Lets not forget that the weapons from Trek are superior to the weapons of Wars any day of the week.

I find your lack of faith disturbing. You don't know the power of the Dark Side.

Strength is irrelevant. Resistance is futile. We wish to improve ourselves. We will add your biological and technological distinctiveness to our own. Your culture will adapt to service ours.
