It is said the force balances itself. Their is an entire army of Jedi but joda says that their is never more than two siths, a master and an apprentice. It only took two sith to kill nearly all of the Jedi. They are able to hold on to power long after they have built the empire. The sith have an extra power of electricity that the Jedi do not use. They are also willing to use parts of the force that the Jedi will not. It is said that the dark side is seductive and we know that people can easily give into temptation. Once a Jedi becomes a sith it would be nearly impossible to go good again. Now I know you may refer to Vader but that was after his death and who knows if he could have maintained his goodness if he had lived. The dark side is the one on the offensive and good is usually on the defensive. In the Star Wars series the dark side is winning for most of the films. It is only in the end the emperor is killed and Vader redeemed although it did little good because the darkness countinue to live on in Layla's son.

The Jedi and the Sith are equal; without each other, there is no balance in the force. However, based on your description of 'superior', that is not the topic we are debating. Instead of explaining why both are equal, allow me to explain why the Jedi are much stronger than the Sith.

The dark side of the force easily seduces and corrupts the minds of force practitioners with godlike, 'unlimited power'. This may be true at the beginning, when a Sith first allows their anger and hatred to control them and manifests these emotions into power. But the main weakness of the Sith (a trend that effects even the best of Sith) is that over time, their overconfidence makes them weak to the point where that surge of power they felt at the beginning is reduced to nothing. Let me show you some examples:

1. Darth Maul: Maul was an extremely powerful Sith assassin who was able to defeat a Jedi master (Qui-Gon Jinn). He was, however, slain easily by Obi Wan when he became overconfident in has abilities.

2.Count Dooku: On Geonosis, Dooku's brilliant mind and powerful Sith abilities easily defeated both Anakin and Obi Wan, and were enough to hold back Yoda. In ROTS, Dooku's overconfidence got the best of him. He easily took down Obi Wan and successfully captured Chancellor Palpatine, and as a result, he was easy to kill.

3. Darth Sidious: Sidious was easily betrayed and killed by Vader after nearly killing Luke and trapping the rebel fleet. Although Sidious was one of the greatest Sith lords of all time, his death was the result of his overconfidence.

The Sith are not superior to the Jedi because the power of a Sith is only temporary. Over time, their overconfidence clouds their minds and makes the vulnerable. The Jedi, on the other hand, start off with little power and must work their way up to become more powerful. The central idea is that, for the Sith, unlimited power may sound great, but over time, your own overconfidence will lead to your undoing, whereas, for the Jedi, patience and knowledge are the keys to power.

But perhaps that's not enough for you; let me continue by saying that the events of the original Star Wars saga (1-6) were all part of the prophecy. Remember, in Phantom Menace, we learn of a hero that will bring balance to the force. In ROTS and ROTJ, it becomes clear that Anakin is the 'chosen one' and that in order to bring balance to the force, he must kill the Sith and the Jedi. Every event that occurs in this time is a matter of fate. Qui-Gon would have had to die so that Obi Wan could train Anakin, therefore leading to Anakin's turn to the dark side and Padme would have had to die so that Luke could live near Obi Wan on Tatooine so that Obi Wan could die at the proper moment so that Luke would be able to train with Yoda to defeat Vader so that Vader could kill Sidious so that balance could be brought to the force. And who survived at the end? A Jedi.
