Similiar to previous debates.

The debate should occur in the following format:

• Round One:: CON offers 3-5 different resolutions. All of the topics must be different (ie I don't want a debate about abortion put into five different phrases) and PLEASE make the topics interesting!

• Round two: I will choose a topic and ask clarification, if needed. Con will answer any clarification questions and leave it at that.

• Rounds three/four/five: The debate!

These are the topics:

1. **Bio fuels should not be used.**
2. Celebrities are suitable role models.
3. Politics should not be involved in the Olympic games.

First I would like to define the word "celebrity". According to the Random House Unabridged Dictionary, a celebrity refers to a famous or well-known person. I further define well-known as
1.clearly or fully known
2.generally or widely known
According to the same dictionary.

Therefore, celebrities possess either positive images and/or negative ones. What connects all of these people is their fame, and it is the only "quality" they share in common.

Rebuttal:
My opponent stated that celebrities are wealthy, and often viewed as successful in their category, they enjoy a fabulous life, and they are typically business minded. While I am shocked by this wild guess, I am equally disappointed to find my opponent contradicting his own statement.
"… the topic doesn't specify a particular celebrity or country,"
It is true that the topic is a comprehensive statement, it refers to everyone in the ‘celebrity' category, that is, while there are those who are wealthy and successful, there are also those who are impoverished and defeated; while there are those who enjoy fabulous life, there are also those who check in to rehab once a month; while there are those who are business minded, there are also those who are not. These statements of my opponent are unproved and false, therefore his contentment is not valid.

"We want our children to be wealthy and successful,
We want our children to live life to the fullest,
We want our children to enjoy financial stability and a successful career."
True, but again, celebrities are not necessarily wealthy/successful/live life to the fullest/etc. Therefore, our children should not look up to anyone who is well-known as the motion suggested.

My opponent stated that "Not all celebrities are bad, most of them are good." First I disagree that most of them are good, unless there were solid proof, instead of sheer personal opinion. Other than that I believe that my opponent was right, because he agreed that some of the celebrities are bad, and that is why the motion should not stand.

Contention
I would not deny that there are some worthy famous people out there, but what we should consider in the topic, is that some of the celebrities are bad, as agreed by my opponent. While that is a truth, I don't see that why we should make someone our children's role model simply because of the fact that this person is well-known.
The motion is a comprehensive statement. Let's not forget about this. When we look into the worthiness of celebrities, there is only one thing that is to be considered, and that is their fame. Because when we consider whether or not these people are rich, successful, business-minded, an inconsistency is present.

I apologize to the voters and my opponent for, quite frankly, wasting your time.

I was allot busier than I expected last week.

Vote CON for time efficiency.

Once again I apologize, and event, feel free to challenge me to another debate.

That is a screen shot showing that at 12:05am, 15 minutes ago, I had over an hour left to post my next argument. I tried posting at 12am on the dot, and it said it was my opponent's turn to post.

So, I got on my iPod Touch and took a screenshot for proof.

(see below for proof)

Please use the rebuttal that I posted below.

Thanks,

Protagoras!

I apologize for missing out on a round. Thanks for your consideration.

I present you with, my arguments:
_____________

I accept my opponent's definition of celebrity as well as his analysis regarding the positive and negative images of these celebrities.
_____________

Rebuttal:

My opponent argues that celebrities are not categorically wealthy nor do they enjoy fabulous lives. This counter claim purposed by my opponent also consists of his personal disappointment in my "contradiction".

Voters, I ensure you that I did not contradict myself.

The topic analysis that I made earlier consisted of a statement claiming we cannot specify a particular celebrity, I was never specific to a particular celebrity within any of my contentions, I simply purposed a generalization of celebrities.

You, as the voter, are open to accept or reject these generalizations. The reason why why prioritize generalizations, as opposed to my opponent's way of thinking is that the topic doesn't specify a particular celebrity, nor type of celebrity we are here to evaluate, therefore we ought to speak in regards to celebrities in general.

Generally speaking, the majority of celebrities are successful and wealthy.

This claim is supported by forbes.com

Which claims the following celebs are some of the richest people on Earth:

Michael Bloomberg

U.S.

Net worth: $11.5 billion

The New York mayor and media mogul.

Ralph Lauren

U.S.

Net worth: $4.2 billion

Owner of Polo, you know, the clothing line.

Donald Trump

U.S.

Net worth: $3 billion

Real-Estate genius!

Richard Branson

U.K.

Net worth: $4.4 billion

Brash entrepreneur whom founded Virgin Records.

Steve Jobs

U.S.

Net worth: $5.4 billion

Creator of Apple.

Bill Gates

U.S.

Net worth: $58 billion

Microsoft creater.

Most importantly, my opponent states that idolizing a well known person is a negative thing. Meaning my opponent is advocating a position in which idolizing a popular person is a negative thing, which ought to be prohibited.

AS of now, he has not giving you a substantial amount of information regarding as to WHY you should not idolize them, he just says not to, simply because they are well known.

Their is no inherent negative impacts behind being well known that outweighs the positive benefits.

My opponent simply attacks my position, yet he does not leave you with any strong negative offense.

For the reasons listed above, regarding the positive impacts that may occur to to the idolization of celebrities, you MUST vote PRO!

T.A:

Basically that since the topic doesn't specify a particular celebrity or country, we cannot evaluate the efficiency of one celebrity in particular. The implication is that you cannot use Brittney Spears as the reason why we negate, likewise, I cannot use Oprah Winfrey.

Contentions:

I.

Celebrities are wealthy and often viewed as successful in their category.

We want our children to be wealthy and successful

Therefore, we want our children to look up to celebrities so that they can be wealthy and successful.

II.

Celebrities enjoy a fabulous life.

We want our children to live life to the fullest.

Children will strive for an exciting and fulfilling life if the have celebrities as role models.

III.

Celebrities are typically business minded

We want our children to enjoy financial stability and a successful career.

If our children look up to celebs, they will be more likely to enjoy financial stability

IV.

Not all celebrities are bad, most of them are good.

We want our children to be good.

Having our children looking up to role models would lead to a more successful generation.

____________

Last, I'd like to reserve my right to bring up new arguments in my next speech. [feel free to argue why not, if you disagree]

____________

That's basically it, I hope that helped.

15 minute's too late!

AH.

I apologize, I was halfway through my argument and I lost connection at the building I was in.

NOW I'm home and it's too late!

If you want, I'll post a brief over-view of what I'm planning to argue, so it'll be fair.

Basically a Topic Analysis and very briefly my "contentions" in the comment section.

Do you want me to post it?
