If every country unites, that means people don't have to use a passport and that saves a lot of trees.

Ok. So I am going to begin with the fact that uniting into a world in a federalized fashion (something akin to the United States) is little more than a glossy facade that (much like other Utopian ideologies) looks great on paper but is horrible in practice, but one must ask himself... why?

The first argument I would like to make is that the creation of a centralized entity responsible for running the world is simply too much diversity under one government. The world has almost 4500 languages with more than 1000 speakers spanning 196 countries over 6-8 continents (depending if you include middle east and central America as a continent). This would be an absolute disaster for administrative purposes because countless people would be either demanding secession, the preservation of their identity, or simple mistranslation. The task of collecting tax revenue or even spending on social services like healthcare would be very inefficient due to the sheer amount of people there is to collect tax from and distribute benefits to. Even if you use super AI and quantum computing, at the end of the day 20 million is far easier to administratively manage than 7 billion.

Another problem with federalizing the world would be the representation of the people. Since this earth contains so many different languages, ethnicities and cultures. How would you be able to represent them in a democratic fashion? This world federation would likely be a democracy after all. The fact alone that populous cultural/ideological groups would outnumber minority groups by significant margins may result in the ignoring of countless people as a tyranny of the majority ensues. The only way this idea would ever work is if the world unites LOOSLEY as the autonomy and representation of earths diverse people is met.
