Let's start off with a brief example of what I'm talking about.

A man with a handful of spare change walks by a donation box, but decides not to donate. Now imagine instead a man walking by empty-handed, and stealing a handful of change. Has either done more wrong than the other? Going off only what can be inferred directly from the story, I don't think so. Either way, the box has a few dollars less than it could have. What do you think?
