There must be a god and one must abide by it's teachings in order for one to be moral.

Con's objective will be to show that one can be moral even if there does not exist a supreme being or god.

Pro's objective will be to show that god must exist and one must abide by it's teachings in order to be moral.

Both debaters will share the BOP for their respective claims. One cannot win only by negating the other's argument. One must also show why there position is correct.

For example, if Con were to negate Pro's assertion that god must exist and one must abide by it's teachings in order to be moral, that does not prove that one can be moral in the abscence of a god or supreme being. Just because god has been refuted as necessary for morality, that does not make moral nihilism any less of a viable option.

I have only one rule for the debate. The voters will determine for the most part how to judge the debate.

Forfeit will result in automatic loss of all seven points.

Definitions:

God: the Being perfect in power, wisdom, and goodness who is worshipped as creator and ruler of the universe
http://www.merriam-webster.com...

Moral: of or relating to principles of right and wrong in behavior
http://www.merriam-webster.com...

My opponent may choose to post their opening arguments for their position in the first round and if they choose not to I will make the opening arguments beginning in the second round.

Good luck to whoever accepts this debate.

I am terribly sorry. I waited too long and forfeited the first round and after that I figured what was the point in salvaging the rest of the debate. I do look forward to my new debate with you however.

I almost want to accept this. I would too if not for the fact I already owe a couple other debates.

But I think I have a goo argument for the Pro stance.

"Pro's objective will be to show that god must exist and one must abide by it's teachings in order to be moral."

That is a lot to argue for in one debate.

Gah, this is so tempting but I'm already in 4 debates with two pending... Man, I love debating about my moral nihilism though. Too bad. :/

The point of the debate is not to make me come around to your position. It really doesn't matter what I believe.

I would wanna debate this, but you are already atheist, so there's no point XD

"there are two resolutions here."

I already showed that pro is only arguing about the pre-requisites for morals. Whether or not god or a supreme being exist does not matter in this debate.
