There should be a federal law saying school has to start at 12 noon.

Most schools start way too early, and it takes away from the ability of the students to learn. It also results in sleep deprivation, and it leads to unhealthy lifestyles. If schools started at noon or later, students would be able to sleep more and eat a nice, whole breakfast, which would further benefit their health. Also, homework isn't an issue because most students don't start their homework until well past 6 pm anyways. It would just be an overall great benefit for everyone if schools weren't allowed to start as early as 7, 8, or 9 am.

I am a student and I agree, starting sschool later can benefit students, but the schools supply breakfast and lunch and their is a risk and I mean a big chance someone being kidnapped, and school takes 8 hours, not 6 hours ,so school would have to end at 8 P.M. min. The school won't take blame for the kidnappings, so school should stay the way it is.

I think there's probably a chance of someone getting kidnapped anytime, whether it's in the morning or afternoon, or on the weekends or holidays. Also, school breakfasts and lunches are never very good, healthy, or plentiful. At least, not from my experience. Starting at 12 will mean that students can have good breakfasts, and even good lunches before school starts, and then have dinner after school.

But for a scenario your kid (if you have one)takes the bus home or usually walks home gets kidnapped, wouldn't you be afraid to put your child to go to school at 12 knowing that school will end at 8? I certainly would. This 12 noon school starting is like allowing your child to go 3 hours past your curfew and never caring. But I think leaving school the way it is is the best formal thing to do.

I agree that school should start later, but not at 12:00 P.M. but rather, 10:00 A.M. Being a student myself, I find it hard to get up.

hm. shouldn't we think about the after-school activities? and how about that kids need to adjust their body clocks to get up early to get to work on time?

Children need to get used to getting up in the morning , because reality doesnt start at noon and what about the parent that are working ...what should they do with the kids in the morning??????

Starting school that late would lead to the following consequences:

(1) After-school sports and clubs would no longer exist, or would be moved to before-school, thus negating the whole point.

(2) Students would be forced to either do homework AND socialize after school leading them to go to bed in the early hours of the morning, or socialize at night and STILL wake up early to do homework.

(3) Parents would not be able to walk their young children to the bus stops (or drive them to school) if school started at noon, creating a very serious safety concern.

That being said, con didn't make any of those points, and I don't think either side did enough to win the debate, so I'm abstaining from this one.

School is supposed to prepare children for adulthood and a career. Getting them used to getting up in the morning and doing critical thinking in the morning hours is important because it prepares them for what they're going to have to do when they are older and have a job that starts at 7 or 8am.
